Abstract

A controller for a modular printer and image capture arrangement includes a bus. Micro-controller circuitry is connected to the bus. An input interface is connected to the bus and is configured to permit at least data from an image capture device to be written to the bus. A memory is connected to the bus and is configured to store program data and at least the image data. A printhead interface is connected to the bus and configured to permit print data to be written to a pagewidth printhead.

Claims

1. A controller for a modular printer and image capture arrangement, the controller comprising

a bus;

micro-controller circuitry connected to the bus;

an input interface connected to the bus and configured to permit at least data from an image capture device to be written to the bus;

a memory connected to the bus and configured to store program data and at least the image data; and

a printhead interface connected to the bus and configured to permit print data to be written to a pagewidth printhead.

2. A controller as claimed in claim 1, in which the bus is a low speed bus that includes address lines and data or control lines.

4. A controller as claimed in claim 1, which includes memory decoding circuitry that is connected to the bus and is configured to support communication between the micro-controller circuitry and other components of the controller via memory-mapped inputs and outputs.

5. A controller as claimed in claim 1, in which the input interface is in the form of a serial bus interface.

6. A controller as claimed in claim 1, in which the memory includes a flash memory for storing the program data and a random access memory for storing at least the image data.

7. A controller as claimed in claim 1, in which a parallel interface is connected to the bus to permit communication between the micro-controller circuitry and peripheral components that generate static electrical signals, such as buttons and a motor.

8. A controller as claimed in claim 1, in which at least one low speed serial interface is connected to the bus to permit at least one corresponding quality assurance integrated circuit to communicate with the micro-controller circuitry.

3. A controller as claimed in 1, in which the micro-controller circuitry defines a micro-controller core that is configured to synchronize image capture and image printing processes.
