Abstract

A method for allowing a collaboration process to perform actions on behalf of a client process, comprising: receiving a message from the client process; impersonating a user for the purposes of performing an action on behalf of the user; performing the action with the same privilege(s) of the user; and wherein the client process and the collaboration process are part of a collaboration.

Claims

1. A method for allowing a collaboration process to perform actions on behalf of a client process, comprising:

receiving a message from the client process;

impersonating a user for the purposes of performing an action on behalf of the user;

performing the action with the same privilege(s) of the user; and

wherein the client process and the collaboration process are part of a collaboration.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the collaboration process can invite a second client process to join the collaboration.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

evaluating a role to dynamically determine a set of potential participants;

selecting the client process from the set of potential participants; and

inviting the client process to join the collaboration.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

receiving an answer to the inviting; and

including the first client in the collaboration if the answer indicates a desire to join the collaboration.

5. The method of claim 3 wherein:

the role is based on presence information.

6. The method of claim 3 wherein:

the selecting selects a least busy participant from the set of potential participants.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the client process can access a shared state through which information can be shared with the collaboration process.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the collaboration allows a plurality of processes to interact and/or share information.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the client process is integrated with a process capable of web browsing.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the collaboration process is a business process that includes a set of activities with a defined ordering wherein the activities involve interaction with one or more enterprise applications.

11. A system for performing actions on behalf of a client process wherein the client process represents a user, comprising:

a client process;

a collaboration process capable of performing the following steps;

receiving a message from the client process;

impersonating a user for the purposes of performing an action on behalf of the user;

performing the action with the same privilege(s) of the user; and

wherein the client process and the collaboration process are part of a collaboration.

12. The system of claim 11 wherein the collaboration process is capable of performing the following further step:

inviting a second client process to join the collaboration.

13. The system of claim 11 wherein the collaboration process is capable of performing the following further steps:

evaluating a role to dynamically determine a set of potential participants;

selecting the client process from the set of potential participants; and

inviting the client process to join the collaboration.

14. The system of claim 13 wherein the collaboration process is capable of performing the following further steps:

receiving an answer to the inviting; and

including the first client in the collaboration if the answer indicates a desire to join the collaboration.

15. The system of claim 13 wherein:

the role is based on presence information.

16. The system of claim 13 wherein:

the selecting selects a least busy participant from the set of potential participants.

17. The system of claim 11 wherein:

the client process can access a shared state through which information can be shared with the collaboration process.

18. The system of claim 11 wherein:

the collaboration allows a plurality of processes to interact and/or share information.

19. The system of claim 11 wherein:

the client process is integrated with a process capable of web browsing.

20. The system of claim 11 wherein:

the collaboration process is a business process that includes a set of activities with a defined ordering wherein the activities involve interaction with one or more enterprise applications.

21. A machine readable medium having instructions stored thereon to cause a system to:

receive a message from a client process;

impersonate a user for the purposes of performing an action on behalf of the user;

perform the action with the same privilege(s) of the user; and

wherein the client process and the collaboration process are part of a collaboration.

22. The machine readable medium of claim 21 wherein:

the collaboration process can invite a second client process to join the collaboration.

23. The machine readable medium of claim 21 having further instructions stored thereon to cause the system to:

evaluate a role to dynamically determine a set of potential participants;

select the client process from the set of potential participants; and

invite the client process to join the collaboration.

24. The machine readable medium of claim 23 having further instructions stored thereon to cause the system to:

receive an answer to the inviting; and

include the first client in the collaboration if the answer indicates a desire to join the collaboration.

25. The machine readable medium of claim 23 wherein:

the role is based on presence information.

26. The machine readable medium of claim 23 wherein:

the selecting selects a least busy participant from the set of potential participants.

27. The machine readable medium of claim 21 wherein:

the client process can access a shared state through which information can be shared with the collaboration process.

28. The machine readable medium of claim 21 wherein:

the collaboration allows a plurality of processes to interact and/or share information.

29. The machine readable medium of claim 21 wherein:

the client process is integrated with a process capable of web browsing.

30. The machine readable medium of claim 21 wherein:

the collaboration process is a business process that includes a set of activities with a defined ordering wherein the activities involve interaction with one or more enterprise applications.

31. A computer signal embodied in a transmission medium, comprising:

a code segment including instructions for receiving a message from the client process;

a code segment including instructions for impersonating a user for the purposes of performing an action on behalf of the user;

a code segment including instructions for performing the action with the same privilege(s) of the user; and

wherein the client process and the collaboration process are part of a collaboration.
