Abstract
A method of commercial play consistent with certain embodiments involve reading trick mode control data from a computer file associated with a commercial; determining if trick mode play is prohibited for the commercial; retrieving the commercial stored in a commercial storage location of a disc drive; if trick play is not permitted for the commercial, disabling the prohibited trick modes during play of the commercial; and sending the commercial video to a display device. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

determining if trick mode play is prohibited for the commercial;

if trick play is not permitted for the commercial, disabling the prohibited trick modes during play of the commercial;
sending the commercial video to a display device;
wherein the trick mode control data indicates one of the following;
1) that trick modes must be disabled at least once to require the commercial to play completely at least once,
2) that trick mode operation is permitted after one complete play of the commercial,
3) that trick modes must be disabled at least N times to require the commercial to play completely at least N times,
4) that trick modes are never prohibited so that trick modes are fully functional during play of the commercial, or
5) that trick modes must always be disabled to require the commercial to always play completely; and
wherein the prohibited trick modes comprise forward trick modes.
