Abstract

A method and apparatus are disclosed for detecting, analyzing and displaying errors in a generator of a medical treatment system. Detected errors are analyzed to define further errors. Errors may be classified, for example, in response to severity, and prioritized. Prioritization may depend on a scope of the error, an order of occurrence, importance, or other factors.

Claims

1. A method of reporting errors in a medical treatment system comprising a generator and one or more associated treatment devices, the method comprising:

detecting first errors in the operation of at least one of the generator and the one or more associated treatment devices;

when more than one first error is detected, analyzing the first errors to determine whether any of two or more of the first errors indicate a second error and defining said second error in response; and

outputting a display of at least one of the first and second errors.

2. The method of claim 1, whereby detecting first errors comprises comparing at least one of input measurements, output measurements and configuration parameters for the operation of the generator and treatment devices, with respective expected measurements and expected parameters.

3. The method of claim 2, whereby at least some of the expected measurements and expected parameters are responsive to manual changing.

4. The method of claim 2, whereby at least some of the expected measurements and expected parameters are responsive to a mode of operation of the generator.

5. The method of claim 2, whereby at least some of the expected measurements and expected parameters are responsive to the measurements input into the system.

6. The method of claim 2, whereby at least some of the expected measurements and expected parameters are responsive to said first or second errors.

7. The method of claim 2, comprising classifying the first errors in response to specific values of the input measurements, output measurements and configuration parameters used in the detection of said first errors.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing the first errors comprises referencing predetermined criteria for combining first errors to define second errors.

9. The method of claim 1, comprising prioritizing the first and second errors.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein prioritizing the first and second errors comprises referencing predetermined criteria for ranking the first and second errors.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein prioritizing errors is responsive to an order in which the first errors were detected.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein outputting a display comprises using a natural language description of the at least one first and second error.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the natural language description includes a suggested action to be taken by a user.

14. The method of claim 1, including modifying an operation of the system automatically in response to at least one of the first or second errors.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein modifying a treatment operation automatically is further responsive to a mode of operating the generator.

16. A generator for a medical treatment system for treating a patient with one or more treatment devices coupled to the generator, said generator comprising:

an interface for receiving measurements from at least one of the generator, the one or more treatment devices, or measuring devices;

an error detection and analysis unit for detecting first errors in at least one of the generator and the one or more treatment devices and analyzing the first errors to define second errors indicated by said first errors; and

a display interface for outputting a display of at least a one of the first and second errors.

17. The generator of claim 16 including an output interface for coupling the generator to control the one or more treatment devices;

and wherein the error detection and analysis unit is responsive to the first and second errors to automatically control the treatment devices.

18. The generator of claim 16 comprising a memory coupled to the error detection and analysis unit to store at least one of configuration data for treatment operations of the generator and configuration data for treatment operations of the treatment devices and wherein the error detection and analysis unit is responsive to the configuration data for detecting errors.

19. The generator of claim 16 comprising a memory coupled to the error detection and analysis unit to store error detection and analysis configuration data for configuring operation of the error detection and analysis unit.

20. A medical treatment system for treating a patient comprising:

a generator;

one or more treatment devices coupled for control of operations by the generator; and

zero or more measurement devices coupled to the generator for providing measurements indicative of the operations of the treatment devices;

said generator comprising one or more interfaces for receiving measurements and controlling the treatment devices; and

an error detection and analysis unit outputting an error display in response to first errors detected in the operations of the generator and one or more treatment devices and second errors defined in response to the first errors.

21. The generator of claim 20 wherein the error detection and analysis unit modifies an operation of the generator automatically in response to a severity of the first and second errors thereby to control the operations of the treatment devices.
