Abstract

This disclosure provides a system and method for summarizing jobs for a user group. In one embodiment, a job manager is operable to invoke a job filter. The job filter is compatible with a plurality of operating environments. One or more properties of a first job associated with a first of the plurality of operating environments is identified. One or more properties of a second job associated with a second of the plurality of operating environments is identified. The first operating environment and the second operating environment are heterogeneous. The identified properties of the first job and the identified properties of the second job are compared to the job filter to select jobs for a user group.

Claims

1. A job manager operable to:

invoke a job filter, wherein the job filter is compatible with a plurality of operating environments;

identify one or more properties of a first job associated with a first of the plurality of operating environments;

identify one or more properties of a second job associated with a second of the plurality of operating environments, wherein the first operating environment and the second operating environment are heterogeneous; and

compare the identified properties of the first job and the identified properties of the second job to the job filter to select jobs for a user group.

2. The job manager of claim 1, the identified property of the first job and the identified property of the second job are normalized to a same value.

3. The job manager of claim 1, further operable to:

retrieve the one or more properties of the first job from the first operating environment;

retrieve the one or more properties of the second job from the second operating environment;

normalize the retrieved properties of the first job for use in the comparison; and

normalize the retrieved properties of the second job for use in the comparison.

4. The job manager of claim 1, further operable to generate the job filter based, at least in part, on one or more selections of a user.

5. The job manager of claim 1, further operable to communicate selected jobs to one of a client, a database, or a user associated with the user group.

7. The job manager of claim 1, the job manager comprising:

a first worker thread associated with the first of the plurality of operating environments, the first worker thread operable to process the job filter;

a second worker thread associated with the second of the plurality of operating environments, the second worker thread operable to process the job filter;

a first adapter associated with the first worker thread, the first adapter operable to convert information to a form compatible with the first of the plurality of operating environments; and

a second adapter associated with the second worker thread, the second adapter operable to convert information to a form compatible with the second of the plurality of operating environments.

6. The job manager of clam 1, wherein the comparison are dynamically determined as the first job and the second job are created.

8. A system for filtering heterogeneous jobs, comprising:

memory operable to store a plurality of job filters, each job filter compatible with a plurality of operating environments; and

one or more processors operable to;

invoke one of the job filters;

identify one or more properties of a first job associated with a first of the plurality of operating environments;

identify one or more properties of a second job associated with a second of the plurality of operating environments, wherein the first operating environment and the second operating environment are heterogeneous; and

compare the identified properties of the first job and the identified properties of the second job to the identified job filter to select jobs for a particular one of plurality of user groups.

9. The system of claim 8, the identified property of the first job and the identified property of the second job are normalized to a same value.

10. The system of claim 8, the processors further operable to:

retrieve the one or more properties of the first job from the first operating environment;

retrieve the one or more properties of the second job from the second operating environment;

normalize the retrieved properties of the first job for use in the comparison; and

normalize the retrieved properties of the second job for use in the comparison.

11. The system of claim 8, the processors further operable to generate the job filter based, at least in part, on one or more selections of a user.

12. The system of claim 8, the processors further operable to communicate selected jobs to one of a client, a database, or a user associated with the user group.

14. The system of claim 8, the processors executing:

a first worker thread associated with the first of the plurality of operating environments, the first worker thread operable to process the job filter;

a second worker thread associated with the second of the plurality of operating environments, the second worker thread operable to process the job filter;

a first adapter associated with the first worker thread, the first adapter operable to convert information to a form compatible with the first of the plurality of operating environments; and

a second adapter associated with the second worker thread, the second adapter operable to convert information to a form compatible with the second of the plurality of operating environments.

13. The system of clam 8, wherein the comparison are dynamically determined as the first job and the second job are created.

15. A method for filtering heterogeneous jobs, comprising:

invoking a job filter, wherein the job filter is compatible with a plurality of operating environments;

identifying one or more properties of a first job associated with a first of the plurality of operating environments;

identifying one or more properties of a second job associated with a second of the plurality of operating environments, wherein the first operating environment and the second operating environment are heterogeneous; and

comparing the identified properties of the first job and the identified properties of the second job to the job filter to select jobs for a user group.

16. The method of claim 15, the identified property of the first job and the identified property of the second job are normalized to a same value.

17. The method of claim 15, further comprising:

retrieving the one or more properties of the first job from the first operating environment;

retrieving the one or more properties of the second job from the second operating environment;

normalizing the retrieved properties of the first job for use in the comparison; and

normalizing the retrieved properties of the second job for use in the comparison.

18. The method of claim 15, further comprising generating the job filter based, at least in part, on one or more selections of a user.

19. The method of claim 15, further comprising communicating selected jobs to one of a client, a database, or a user associated with the user group.

20. The method of clam 15, wherein the comparisons are dynamically determined as the first job and the second job are created.
