Methods for improving or correcting a patient'"'"'s vision are provided which generally include inserting a lens within the stroma of an eye of the patient by forming an incision in the cornea and creating a pocket within the stroma for accommodating the lens, the method being accomplished without forming a flap incision.

forming a pocket in a cornea of a person, the pocket having a peripheral edge and a pocket opening located substantially adjacent the peripheral edge; - and
inserting a lens into the pocket by directing the lens in a deformed configuration through the pocket opening and allowing the lens to assume a non-deformed configuration in the pocket so that a peripheral edge of the lens is substantially adjacent to the peripheral edge of the pocket and the lens is maintained in a substantially fixed position in the pocket.
