Abstract

A method and system for designing electro-active lenses adapted to correct for a higher-order aberration, whereby a desired pixel size is determined. In certain embodiments, the desired pixel size may be determined by identifying a desired pixel size for an electro-active lens adapted to correct for a conventional aberration.

Claims

1. A method of correcting a higher-order aberration comprising:

identifying a sized area for an electro-active area of a lens;

selecting a desired pixel size between 240 and 50 microns per pixel;

dividing the surface area by the desired pixel size; and

dividing the surface area by the desired pixel size for a second time.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

multiplying by a fill factor.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the fill factor is slightly less than 1.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

providing a multi-layer electrode.

5. A method of determining a desired pixel size for correcting higher-order aberrations with an electro-active lens comprising:

determining a desired width per electrode for an electro-active lens correcting a conventional aberration;

multiplying by a ratio obtained by dividing the maximum optical power of said lens by ½

.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein

the desired width per electrode for correcting a conventional aberration is 60 microns per electrode.

7. A system for correcting a higher-order aberration comprising:

a means of identifying a surface area for an electro-active area of a lens;

a means of selecting a desired pixel size between 240 and 50 microns per pixel;

a means of dividing the surface area by the desired pixel size; and

a means of multiplying by a fill factor.
