Abstract

An automatic dose infusion apparatus that electronically controls a medicinal substance storage chamber and a control chamber, electronically regulates infusion of the medicinal substance, and constantly maintains a prescribed amount of medicinal substance on the basis of the number of rotations of a motor. The automatic dose infusion apparatus comprises a housing having three compartments, a medicinal substance storage chamber formed in the upper compartment of the housing for storing a medicinal substance pack, a control chamber formed in the middle compartment of the housing, a driving chamber formed in the lower compartment of the housing, a bolus switch connected to the housing for generating an additional medicinal substance infusion command signal, and a tube extending from the inside of the driving chamber to the outside of the driving chamber for delivering the medicinal substance discharged from the medicinal substance pack to a needle.

Claims

1. An automatic dose infusion apparatus, comprising:

a housing having three compartments defined therein;

a medicinal substance storage chamber formed in the upper compartment of the housing for storing a medicinal substance pack;

a control chamber formed in the middle compartment of the housing while being disposed below the medicinal substance storage chamber, the control chamber including a button part for setting the infusion amount of medicinal substance and time intervals, an LCD for displaying setup information, and a circuit board with various circuit elements mounted thereto;

a driving chamber formed in the lower compartment of the housing while being disposed below the control chamber, the driving chamber including a pressure pump mounted therein for pumping the medicinal substance so that the medicinal substance can be discharged through a tube, the driving chamber serving to regulate the infusion of the medicinal substance by controlling the operation of the pressure pump;

a bolus switch connected to a prescribed position of one side of the housing via an electric cord for generating an additional medicinal substance infusion command signal; and

a tube extending from the inside of the driving chamber to the outside of the driving chamber for delivering the medicinal substance discharged from the medicinal substance pack to a needle.

2. The apparatus as set forth in claim 1, wherein the driving chamber includes:

a guide groove formed at the top of the housing for allowing the tube to be securely located therein;

a hinged cover attached to the top of the housing for covering the guide groove and the pressure pump; and

a check valve location groove formed at the top of the housing for allowing a check valve, formed at a prescribed position of the middle of the tube for regulating infusion of the medicinal substance, to be securely located therein.

3. The apparatus as set forth in claim 2, wherein the hinged cover includes:

a supporting bar formed at the lower surface of the hinged cover, such that the supporting bar extends a prescribed length in the longitudinal direction of the hinged cover, for pressing the tube against the pressure pump; and

a pressing protrusion for pressing the check valve so that the medicinal substance can be infused.

4. The apparatus as set forth in claim 2, wherein the pressure pump includes:

a plurality of pressing pieces disposed in a groove formed at the top of the housing, each of the pressing pieces being formed in the shape of a “

U”

such that the tube can be securely located in the upper part of the pressing piece and having a through-hole formed at the middle thereof;

a cam mounted in the through-holes of the pressing pieces, the cam having a screw formed on the outer circumference thereof;

a motor for transmitting a driving force to the cam; and

a spring for connecting a camshaft of the cam and a motor shaft of the motor such that the driving force of the motor can be accurately transmitted to the cam even when the camshaft and the motor shaft are not arranged in a straight line.

The apparatus as set forth in claim 4, wherein the pressing pieces are arranged such that one of the pressing pieces is connected to a neighboring pressing piece by means of the cam, the pressing pieces being moved vertically in the form of a sine wave to press the tube when the cam is driven so that the medicinal substance can be delivered.

6. The apparatus as set forth in claim 2, wherein the check valve comprises:

a valve housing having one end connected to a main tube for delivering the medicinal substance from the inside of the apparatus and the other end connected to a discharging tube for discharging the medicinal substance to the outside of the apparatus; and

an opening and closing member mounted in the valve housing such that the opening and closing member is disposed at a middle space part defined in the valve housing, the opening and closing member being formed in the shape of a taper so that the opening and closing member can be moved vertically to open or close a flow channel defined in the valve housing.

7. An automatic dose infusion apparatus, comprising:

a housing having three compartments defined therein;

a medicinal substance storage chamber formed in the upper compartment of the housing for storing a medicinal substance pack;

a driving chamber for regulating infusion of the medicinal substance, the driving chamber including a pressure pump mounted therein for pumping the medicinal substance so that the medicinal substance can be discharged through a tube;

a bolus switch connected to a prescribed position of one side of the housing via an electric cord for generating an additional medicinal substance infusion command signal;

a tube extending from the inside of the driving chamber to the outside of the driving chamber for delivering the medicinal substance discharged from the medicinal substance pack to a needle; and

a check valve including a valve housing having one end connected to one middle end of the tube and the other end connected to the other middle end of the tube, and an opening and closing member mounted in the valve housing such that the opening and closing member can be moved vertically to regulate infusion of the medicinal substance, wherein the automatic dose infusion apparatus further comprises;

a membrane attached to a lower supporting surface of the check valve such that the membrane can be expanded or contracted by the pressure inside the valve housing;

a block-detecting sensor disposed below the membrane for detecting blockage of the tube, the block-detecting sensor generating a high signal when the membrane is expanded;

a door-detecting sensor mounted to the inner wall of the housing for detecting whether the hinged cover is closed or not, the door-detecting sensor generating a high signal when the door is closed;

an air-detecting sensor disposed below the tube for detecting whether or not air is contained in the medicinal substance passing through the tube, the air-detecting sensor generating a high signal when only medicinal substance passes through the tube and the air-detecting sensor generating a low signal when medicinal substance containing air therein passes through the tube; and

a control unit for performing a control operation so that the operation of the pressure pump is stopped when a signal detected by means of the block-detecting sensor, the door-detecting sensor, or the air-detecting sensor is abnormal.

8. The apparatus as set forth in claim 7, wherein the block-detecting sensor, the door-detecting sensor, and the air-detecting sensor are proximity sensors each for generating a high signal when the sensor approaches liquid, metal, or skin.

9. The apparatus as set forth in claim 7, further comprising:

a rotation-detecting sensor mounted in the driving chamber for detecting the number of rotations of a motor that drives the pressure pump.

10. The apparatus as set forth in claim 9, further comprising:

a spring connected to the motor, the spring being provided at one end thereof with a protruded rotary part, to which a magnet is attached, wherein the rotation-detecting sensor is a hall sensor for detecting rotation of a motor shaft of the motor.

11. An automatic dose infusion apparatus, comprising:

a button unit including a mode selection button for selecting an injection mode so that a prescribed amount of medicinal substance can be automatically infused into a patient, a start/stop button for starting or stopping infusion of the medicinal substance, and an adjustment button for increasing or decreasing the infusion amount of the medicinal substance;

a bolus switch for performing additional self-infusion of the medicinal substance in a patient controlled analgesia (PCA) mode;

a door-detecting sensor for detecting whether the cover that securely locates a tube and accommodates the tube is closed or not;

an air-detecting sensor for detecting whether air is contained in the tube or not;

a block-detecting sensor for detecting whether the tube is blocked or not;

a motor for actuating a pressure pump, and a motor-driving unit for driving the motor;

an LCD for displaying information, such as the mode selected by means of the button unit, the adjusted amount of the medicinal substance, and infusion start/stop status, so that the patient can easily recognize the information; and

an LCD-driving unit for driving the LCD, wherein the automatic dose infusion apparatus further comprises;

an encoder for detecting the number of rotations of the motor;

a buzzer for informing an abnormality of infusion of the medicinal substance, and a buzzer-driving unit for driving the buzzer;

a data storage unit for storing medicinal substance infusion algorithms according to a continuous infusion mode, a patient controlled analgesia (PCA) mode, an intermittent infusion mode, a total parenteral nutrition (TPN) infusion mode, and a multi-step infusion mode; and

a control unit for receiving a signal according to the input of each button of the button unit to perform an algorithm according to the corresponding mode previously stored in the data storage unit, detecting the number of rotations of the motor in the infusion mode to control the operation of the motor, receiving the detected signal from each sensor to determine whether an abnormality is present or not, stopping the operation of the motor and operating the buzzer when the abnormality is present, so that infusion of the medicinal substance can be safely and accurately performed.

12. A method of controlling an automatic dose infusion apparatus comprising the steps of:

applying electric power to the automatic dose infusion apparatus;

performing an initial self-test;

performing an initial mode;

determining whether a prescribed mode is selected or not;

selecting an infusion mode;

preparing for the infusion mode;

performing infusion of medicinal substance;

informing that the infusion of medicinal substance will be stopped in approximately 10 minutes;

generating a stop code;

resetting flow rate of the medicinal substance during the operation of the automatic dose infusion apparatus;

checking an error in connection with the operation of a motor; and

stopping the infusion of the medicinal substance.

13. The method as set forth in claim 12, wherein the infusion mode comprises:

a continuous infusion mode for continuously infusing a prescribed amount of medicinal substance from the time when infusion of the medicinal substance is initiated to the time when infusion of the medicinal substance is completed;

a patient controlled analgesia (PCA) mode for further infusing another prescribed amount of medicinal substance in addition to the prescribed amount of the medicinal substance in the continuous infusion mode;

an intermittent infusion mode for presetting periods of infusion time and interruption time from the time when infusion of the medicinal substance is initiated to the time when infusion of the medicinal substance is completed, and resetting the infusion amount of the medicinal substance at each period of infusion time so that the infusion and the interruption of the medicinal substance can be alternately performed;

a total parenteral nutrition (TPN) infusion mode for gradually increasing the amount of the medicinal substance for a prescribed period of time, infusing a prescribed amount of the medicinal substance for a prescribed period of time, and gradually decreasing the amount of the medicinal substance for a prescribed period of time; and

a multi-step infusion mode for irregularly changing the amount of medicinal substance on the basis of multiple time zones so that the irregular amount of the medicinal substance can be infused on the basis of the multiple time zones.

14. The method as set forth in claim 12, wherein the initial mode performing step comprises:

determining whether the bolus switch is manipulated or not;

when the bolus switch is manipulated, checking a door-detecting sensor and a pressure-detecting sensor;

driving the motor; and

when the bolus switch is not manipulated, maintaining a previous mode set before the bolus switch is manipulated.

15. The method as set forth in claim 12, wherein the infusion mode selecting step comprises:

commonly selecting the total infusion amount of the medicinal substance, the infusion speed of the medicinal substance;

further selecting the infusion amount of the medicinal substance when the bolus switch is manipulated and a lock out time in the patient controlled analgesia mode;

further selecting an infusion time of the medicinal substance and an infusion stop time of the medicinal substance in the intermittent infusion mode;

further selecting a ramp up time of the medicinal substance, and a ramp down time of the medicinal substance in the total parenteral nutrition (TPN) infusion mode; and

further selecting an infusion step in the multi-step infusion mode.

16. The method as set forth in claim 12, wherein the infusion mode preparing step comprises:

checking an air-detecting sensor, a pressure-detecting sensor, and a door-detecting sensor;

determining whether an error is generated or not; and

generating a test alarm.

17. The method as set forth in claim 12, further comprising:

interrupting electric current supplied to an encoder and a hall sensor having no connection with the operation of the motor a prescribed period of time after the operation of the motor is stopped so that electric energy consumption of a battery is reduced.

18. The method as set forth in claim 12, wherein the medicinal substance infusion performing step comprises:

driving the motor on the basis of an ON/OFF control, a PWN control, or a PID control;

detecting the number of pulses of the motor with an encoder and a hall sensor when the motor is rotated to compare the detected number of pulses of the motor to a prescribed number of rotations of the motor; and

compensating for the detected number of pulses of the motor until the detected number of pulses of the motor is equal to the prescribed number of rotations of the motor when the number of rotations of the motor is increased or decreased.
