Abstract

Provided is a radio communication system and method for a multimedia broadcast and multicast (MBMS) service in which when a terminal having set a dedicated channel in an SRNC moves and is then connected to an RNC by which an MBMS service can be supported, the RNC to which the terminal has moved notifies the terminal whether the MBMS service is available, and accordingly the terminal can select a desirable service (i.e., a previous service or the MBMS service) according to a state thereof on the basis of the corresponding information, whereby it is possible to solve the problem in the conventional art in which the terminal can not receive information of its desirable service and thus can not receive the service, by providing the terminal that can not receive both two dedicated channels (i.e., does not have sufficient capability) with information of a new service.

Claims

1. A radio communication system for a multimedia broadcast and multicast service (MBMS) comprising:

a second Radio Network Controller (RNC) for notifying a first RNC which supports a first service, information of a second service when a terminal which is receiving the first service moves to an area in which the second service is supported;

the first RNC for receiving the information of the second service and notifying the information to the terminal; and

the terminal for selecting a desirable service according to the information of the second service and capability thereof, and requesting the first RNC to set or release a channel.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the first RNC is a Serving RNC (SRNC).

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the second RNC is a Drift RNC (DRNC).

4. The system of claim 1, wherein if the first service is a dedicated channel service, the second service is an MBMS service, and if the first service is the MBMS service, the second service is the dedicated channel service.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the information of the second information is a service ID or a list of service IDs.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the information of the second service indicates every service that the DRNC can support, a specific service in which the terminal has subscribed, and information of whether the service is simply available.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the second RNC can transfer the information of the second service directly to the terminal through an MCCH channel.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the first RNC notifies the terminal of the information of the second service through a service notification message.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the information of the second service is transferred to the SRNC through a service indication message.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the service indication message is a radio link setup/reconfigure response message and an attach response message.

11. A radio communication method for a multimedia broadcast and multicast (MBMS) service in a system for setting radio resources related to a specific service by a terminal request, comprising:

when a terminal receiving a first service in a first Radio Network Controller (RNC) moves to be connected to a second RNC for supporting a second service, notifying information of the second service to the first RNC by the second RNC;

notifying the terminal of the information of the second service by the first RNC; and

selecting a service that the terminal wants to receive according to the information of the second service and a capability of the terminal.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the first RNC is a Serving RNC (SRNC).

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the second RNC is a Drift RNC (DRNC).

14. The method of claim 11, wherein if the first service is a dedicated channel service, the second service is an MBMS service, and if the first service is the MBMS service, the second service is the dedicated channel service.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the information of the second service is a service ID or a list of service IDs.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein the information of the second service indicates every service that the DRNC can support, a specific service in which the terminal has subscribed, and information of whether the service is simple available.

17. The method of claim 11, wherein the information of the second service is transferred to the terminal through a dedicated channel of the first RNC.

18. The method of claim 11, wherein the information of the second service is transferred to the terminal through a service indication message.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the service indication message is a radio link setup/reconfigure response message and an attach response message.

20. The method of claim 11, wherein the terminal sets a channel only for the second service when capability thereof is not sufficient.

21. The method of claim 11, further comprising requesting setup or release of the channel to the first RNC, by the terminal, according to the selected service.

22. A radio communication method for a multimedia broadcast and multicast (MBMS) service in a system for setting radio resources with respect to a specific service by a terminal request, comprising:

when a terminal receiving a first service in a first Radio Network Controller (RNC) moves to be connected to a second RNC for supporting a second service, notifying information of the second service to the first RNC by the second RNC; and

selecting a desirable service according to the information of the second service and a capability of the terminal.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the first RNC is a Serving RNC (SRNC), and the second RNC is a Drift RNC (DRNC).

24. The method of claim 22, wherein if the first service is a dedicated channel service, the second service is an MBMS service, and if the first service is the MBMS service, the second service is the dedicated channel service.

25. The method of claim 22, wherein the information of the second service is a service ID or a list of service IDs.

26. The method of claim 22, wherein the information of the second service indicates every service that the DRNC can support, a specific service in which the terminal has subscribed, and information of whether the service is simple available.

27. The method of claim 22, wherein the information of the second service is transferred to the SRNC through a service available indication message, and transferred to the terminal through a service notification message.
