Abstract

A system employing a telematics unit and a telematics call center. The telematics unit includes a first module and a first set of at least one pre-scripted text message, and the telematics call center includes a second module and a second set of at least one pre-scripted text message. The modules operate to selectively establish a communication between telematics unit and telematics call center involving at least one of the first set of at least one pre-scripted text message and the second set of at least one pre-scripted text message.

Claims

1. A system, comprising:

a telematics unit including a first module and a first set of at least one pre-scripted text message;

a telematics call center including a second module and a second set of at least one pre-scripted text message; and

wherein the first module and the second module are operable to selectively establish a communication between telematics unit and telematics call center involving at least one of the first set of at least one pre-scripted text message and the second set of at least one pre-scripted text message.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the communication is based on at least one of a communication protocol selected from the group consisting of SMS, CDMA, AMPS, SDARS, GSM, PCS, Bluetooth, 802.11, and a FCC Part 15 protocol.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the first module is operable to control a communication of a first pre-scripted text message from the telematics unit to the telematics call center in response to an activation command from at least one of a vehicle and a mobile phone.

4. The system of claim 1,

wherein the first module is operable to test an impedance of at least on audio line associated with the telematics unit;

and

wherein the first module is operable to control a communication of a first pre-scripted text message from the telematics unit to the telematics call center in response a failure of the impedance test by the at least one audio line.

5. A method communicating between a telematics unit in a vehicle and a call center, the method comprising:

Determining whether the telematics unit is in a pre-scripted text message mode; and

Providing a pre-scripted text message mode interface based on the determination.

6. The method of claim 5 further comprising storing at least one pre-scripted message in the telematics unit.

7. The method of claim 5 wherein determining whether the telematics unit is in a pre-scripted text message mode comprises performing an impedance test on at least one audio circuit.

8. The method of claim 5 wherein determining whether the telematics unit is in a pre-scripted text message mode comprises monitoring an airbag system for an airbag deployment status.

9. The method of claim 5 wherein determining whether the telematics unit is in a pre-scripted text message mode comprises receiving an emergency mode input.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein receiving an emergency mode input comprises receiving an emergency mode button press.

11. The method of claim 5 wherein determining whether the telematics unit is in a pre-scripted text message mode comprises receiving a pre-scripted text message mode input.

12. The method of claim 5 further comprising receiving a pre-scripted text message from the pre-scripted text message mode interface.

13. The method of claim 10 further comprising transmitting the received pre-scripted text message from the telematics unit to the call center using a wireless network.

14. The method of claim 13 further comprising receiving a text message from the call center in response to the transmitted pre-scripted text message

15. The method of claim 5 wherein providing a pre-scripted text message mode interface comprises displaying at least one pre-scripted text message on a display screen.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein the display screen is selected from the group consisting of a navigation screen, monitor, driver information display, and a radio display unit.

17. The method of claim 5 further comprising setting a diagnostic trouble code.

18. A system for communicating between a call center and a telematics unit, the system comprising:

means for determining whether the telematics unit is in a pre-scripted text message mode; and

means for providing a pre-scripted text message mode interface based on the determination.

19. The system of claim 18 wherein the means for determining whether the telematics unit is in a pre-scripted text message mode comprises means for performing an impedance test on at least one audio circuit.

20. The system of claim 18 further comprising means for transmitting the received pre-scripted text message from the telematics unit to the call center using a wireless network.

21. The system of claim 18 further comprising means for receiving a pre-scripted text message from the pre-scripted text message mode interface.
