Abstract

Aspects of a method and system for automatic registration security are presented, and may comprise registering a client station with an access point without requiring a user to enter configuration information at the access point and at the client station. The method may comprise activating a button at an access point and activating a button at a client station to effectuate the registering. Aspects of a system for enabling communication of information in a secure communications network may comprise an access point that registers a client station without requiring a user to enter configuration information at the access point and at the client station. The system may comprise a button that is activated at an access point, and a button that is activated at a client station.

Claims

1. A method for enabling communication of information in a secure communication system, the method comprising registering a client station in a network with an access point without a user entering configuration information at said access point and said client station.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising activating at least one of:

a hardware button and a software enabled button, which is located on at least one of said client station and said access point that registers said client station with said access point.

3. The method according to claim 1, further comprising limiting a duration in which said client station is allowed to register with said access point to a limited time window.

4. The method according to claim 3, wherein said duration is configurable.

5. The method according to claim 3, further comprising beginning said limited time window at a time instant at which at least one of:

a hardware button and a software button, is activated at said access point.

6. The method according to claim 5, further comprising registering a single requesting client station with said access point during said limited time window.

7. The method according to claim 6, further comprising at least one of:

generating a preshared key and communicating an encrypted said preshared key between said access point and said single requesting client station, during said registering said single requesting client station.

8. The method according to claim 6, further comprising communicating at least a service set identifier between said access point and said single requesting client station, during said registering said single requesting client station.

9. The method according to claim 1, further comprising canceling said registered said client station based on a length of time that a button is activated at said access point.

10. The method according to claim 9, further comprising generating at least one of:

a preshared key and a service set identifier, based on said length of time that said button is activated.

11. A system for enabling communication of information in a secure communication system, the system comprising an access point that registers a client station without a user entering configuration information at said access point and said client station.

12. The system according to claim 11, further comprising at least one of:

a hardware button and a software enabled button, which is located on at least one of said client station and said access point that is activated to register said client station with said access point.

13. The system according to claim 11, wherein said access point limits a duration in which said client station is allowed to register with said access point to a limited time window.

14. The system according to claim 13, wherein said duration is configurable.

15. The system according to claim 13, wherein said access point begins said limited time window at a time instant at which at least one of:

a hardware button and a software button, is activated at said access point.

16. The system according to claim 15, wherein said access point registers a single requesting client station with said access point during said limited time window.

17. The system according to claim 16, wherein said access point at least one of:

generates a preshared key and communicates an encrypted said preshared key to said single requesting client station, during said registering said single requesting client station.

18. The system according to claim 16, wherein said access point communicates at least a service set identifier to said single requesting client station, during said registering said single requesting client station.

19. The system according to claim 11, wherein said access point cancels said registered said client station based on a length of time that a button is activated at said access point.

20. The system according to claim 19, wherein said access point generates at least one of:

a preshared key and a service set identifier, based on said length of time that said button is activated.

21. A machine-readable storage having stored thereon, a computer program having at least one code section for enabling communication of information in a secure communication system, the at least one code section being executable by a machine for causing the machine to perform steps comprising registering a client station in a network with an access point without a user entering configuration information at said access point and said client station.

22. The machine-readable storage according to claim 21, further comprising code for activating at least one of:

a hardware button and a software enabled button, which is located on at least one of said client station and said access point that registers said client station with said access point.

23. The machine-readable storage according to claim 21, further comprising code for limiting a duration in which said client station is allowed to register with said access point to a limited time window.

24. The machine-readable storage according to claim 23, wherein said duration is configurable.

25. The machine-readable storage according to claim 23, further comprising code for beginning said limited time window at a time instant at which at least one of:

a hardware button and a software button, is activated at said access point.

26. The machine-readable storage according to claim 25, further comprising code for registering a single requesting client station with said access point during said limited time window.

27. The machine-readable storage according to claim 26, further comprising code for at least one of:

generating a preshared key and communicating an encrypted said preshared key between said access point and said single requesting client station, during said registering said single requesting client station.

28. The machine-readable storage according to claim 26, further comprising code for communicating at least a service set identifier between said access point and said single requesting client station, during said registering said single requesting client station.

29. The machine-readable storage according to claim 21, further comprising code for canceling said registered said client station based on a length of time that a button is activated at said access point.

30. The machine-readable storage according to claim 29, further comprising code for generating at least one of:

a preshared key and a service set identifier, based on said length of time that said button is activated.
