Abstract

Some embodiments provide a telephone comprising an interface port to receive a computer network interface device.

Claims

1. A telephone comprising:

an interface port to receive a computer network interface device.

2. A telephone according to claim 1,

the interface port to receive a PCMCIA card.

3. A telephone according to claim 1,

the interface port to receive a Flash card.

4. A telephone according to claim 1,

the computer network interface device to couple the telephone to a computer network.

5. A telephone according to claim 4,

the computer network comprising an Internet Protocol network.

6. A telephone according to claim 1, further comprising:

means to encapsulate telephone call signals in accordance with a computer network protocol,

wherein the interface port is to transmit the encapsulated signals to the computer network interface device.

7. A telephone according to claim 1, wherein the interface port is to receive encapsulated telephone call signals from the computer network interface device, and the telephone further comprising:

means to decapsulate encapsulated telephone call signals to generate telephone call signals.

8. A method for a telephone, the method comprising:

receiving a computer network interface device into an interface port compatible with the computer network interface device.

9. A method according to claim 8,

the computer network interface device to couple the telephone to a computer network.

10. A method according to claim 9,

the computer network comprising an Internet Protocol network.

11. A method according to claim 8, further comprising:

encapsulating telephone call signals in accordance with a computer network protocol; and

transmitting the encapsulated signals to the computer network interface device.

12. A method according to claim 8, further comprising:

receiving encapsulated telephone call signals from the computer network interface device; and

decapsulating the encapsulated telephone call signals to generate telephone call signals.
