Abstract

Novel well characteristic methodologies for determining, pricing, and/or providing well servicing treatments are provided and data processing system therefor. A method of pricing a well servicing treatment based on well characteristics, that comprises obtaining one or more well characteristics of the well servicing treatment, and generating a price of the well servicing treatment based on the one or more well characteristics, is provided. Also provided are methods of pricing a cementing operation and selecting a cement composition for the cement operation, methods of pricing a well servicing treatment during real-time performance of the well servicing treatment, methods of pricing a drilling operation and detecting and visualizing changes in a well bore during real-time performance of the drilling operation, computer programs, and data processing systems.

Claims

1. A method of pricing a well servicing treatment based on one or more well characteristics, comprising:

obtaining a well characteristic of the well servicing treatment;

generating a price of the well servicing treatment based on the well characteristic, wherein generating the price of the well servicing treatment comprises determining a reference value for the well characteristic; and

transmitting the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein at least one of the steps of obtaining the well characteristic or generating the price of the well servicing treatment comprises utilizing a data processing system.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the data processing system comprises at least one of the following:

a computer system or a handheld device.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises at least one of the following:

a drilling, a completion, or a workover operation.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises at least one of the following:

a drilling, a fracturing, an acidizing, a logging, a cementing, a gravel packing, a perforating, or a conformance operation.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises nanoparticles.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises utilizing a neural network.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the well characteristic is obtained from a user by a computer system, wherein the computer system is capable of generating the price of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the well characteristic.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein the well characteristic is obtained from the user of a second computer system that is communicatively coupled to the computer system via a communication link.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the communication link comprises at least one of the following:

a direct connection, a private network, a virtual private network, a local area network, a wide area network, an Internet-based communication system, a wireless communication system, or a satellite communication system.

11. The method of claim 8 wherein the well characteristic is obtained from the user of the computer system.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein obtaining the well characteristic comprises transmitting a list of possible well servicing treatments to a user.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein obtaining the well characteristic further comprises receiving a selection of the well servicing treatment to be priced from the user based on the transmitted list of possible well servicing treatments.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein obtaining the well characteristic further comprises transmitting to the user a list of one or more well characteristics to input based on the well servicing treatment that was selected.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein obtaining the well characteristic further comprises receiving from the user input of the well characteristic of the well servicing treatment based on the transmitted list.

17. The method of claim 1 wherein determining reference values comprises at least one of the following:

utilizing a mathematical algorithm or utilizing a look-up table.

18. The method of claim 1 wherein generating the price of the well servicing treatment further comprises determining a reference value total for the well servicing treatment based on a plurality of reference values, wherein each of the plurality of reference values is determined for a particular well characteristic of the well servicing treatment.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein the reference value total is a summation of the plurality of reference values reference values.

20. The method of claim 19 wherein generating the price of the well servicing treatment further comprises generating the price of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the reference value total.

21. The method of claim 20 wherein generating the price of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the reference value total comprises at least one of the following:

utilizing a mathematical algorithm or utilizing a look-up table.

22. The method of claim 1 wherein the well characteristic comprises at least one of the following:

a bottom-hole static temperature, an applicable environmental regulation, a vertical depth, a type of formation, a type of hydrocarbon, a geographical area, a formation porosity, a formation permeability, a desired pump rate, a desired density of treatment fluid, a desired level of fluid loss control, a desired pump time, an existence of a thief zone, a corrosion potential, a pipe friction, or an existence of reactive shale.

23. The method of claim 1 further comprising applying a profitability factor to the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

24. The method of claim 1 further comprising applying a discount factor to the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

26. The method of claim 1 wherein the generated price of the well servicing treatment is transmitted to a user by a computer system, wherein the computer system is capable of generating the price of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the well characteristic.

27. The method of claim 26 wherein the generated price is transmitted to the user of a second computer system that is communicatively coupled to the computer system via a communication link.

28. The method of claim 27 wherein the communication link comprises at least one of the following:

a direct connection, a private network, a virtual private network, a local area network, a wide area network, an Internet-based communication system, a wireless communication system, or a satellite communication system.

29. The method of claim 26 wherein the well characteristic is transmitted to the user of the computer system.

34. The method of claim 1 further comprising performing the well servicing treatment.

35. The method of claim 34 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises at least one of the following:

a drilling, a fracturing, an acidizing, a logging, a cementing, a gravel packing, a perforating, or a conformance operation.

36. The method of claim 34 further comprising determining whether an additional well servicing treatment will be performed.

126. A method of pricing a well servicing treatment during real-time performance of the well servicing treatment, comprising:

performing the well servicing treatment;

obtaining a well characteristic of the well servicing treatment while the well servicing treatment is in progress; and

generating a price of the well servicing treatment based on the well characteristic that was obtained, wherein the price of the well servicing treatment is generated while the well servicing treatment is in progress.

127. The method of claim 126 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises at least one of the following:

a drilling, a completion, or a workover operation.

128. The method of claim 126 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises at least one of the following:

129. The method of claim 126 wherein the well characteristic comprises at least one of the following:

a bottom-hole static temperature, an applicable environmental regulation, a vertical depth, a type of formation, a type of hydrocarbon, a geographical area, a formation porosity, a formation permeability, a desired pump rate, a desired density of treatment fluid, a desired level of fluid loss control, a desired pump time, an existence of a thief zone, a corrosion potential, a pipe friction, or an existence of reactive shale.

130. The method of claim 126 wherein at least one of the steps of obtaining the well characteristic or generating the price of the well servicing treatment comprises utilizing a data processing system.

131. The method of claim 130 wherein the data processing system comprises at least one of the following:

a computer system or a handheld device.

132. The method of claim 126 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises utilizing a neural network.

133. The method of claim 126 wherein the well characteristic is obtained by a computer system over a communication link.

134. The method of claim 133 wherein the communication link comprises at least one of the following:

a direct connection, a private network, a virtual private network, a local area network, a wide area network, an Internet-based communication system, a wireless communication system, or a satellite communication system.

135. The method of claim 126 wherein generating the price of the well servicing treatment comprises determining a reference value for the well characteristic.

The method of claim 135 wherein generating the price of the well servicing treatment further comprises determining a reference value total for the well servicing treatment based on a plurality of reference values, wherein each of the plurality of reference values is determined for a particular well characteristic of the well servicing treatment.

137. The method of claim 136 wherein generating the price of the well servicing treatment further comprises generating the price of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the reference value total.

138. The method of claim 126 further comprising applying a profitability factor to the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

139. The method of claim 126 further comprising applying a discount factor to the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

140. The method of claim 126 further comprising determining a recommended formulation of a treatment fluid to use based on the well characteristic that was obtained.

141. The method of claim 140 further comprising transmitting the recommended formulation while the well servicing treatment is in progress.

142. The method of claim 126 further comprising transmitting the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

143. The method of claim 142 wherein the generated price is transmitted to a user.

144. The method of claim 143 wherein the user is the user of a computer system, wherein the computer system is capable of generating the price of the well servicing treatment.

145. The method of claim 141 wherein the user is the user of a second computer system that is communicatively coupled to a computer system capable of generating the price of the well servicing treatment.

146. The method of claim 126 further comprising determining whether to continue the well servicing treatment based on the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

147. The method of claim 126 further comprising repeating the steps of:

obtaining the well characteristic of the well servicing treatment while the well servicing treatment is in progress; and

generating the price of the well servicing treatment based on the well characteristic that was received, wherein the price of the well servicing treatment is generated while the well servicing treatment is in progress.

148. The method of claim 147 wherein the steps are repeated while the well servicing treatment is in progress.

149. The method of claim 126 further comprising transmitting the generated price of the well servicing treatment to a user.

150. The method of claim 149 wherein the user accepts the generated price that was transmitted.

151. The method of claim 150 further comprising completing a sale of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

152. The method of claim 151 wherein completing the sale comprises utilization of an online purchasing technique.

154. The method of claim 126 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises at least one of the following:

a drilling, a fracturing, an acidizing, a logging, a cementing, a gravel packing, a perforating, or a conformance operation.

155. The method of claim 126 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises a drilling operation and wherein the method further comprises:

correlating a time-depth file and a time-data file to obtain a plurality of measurements at a specific depth for a particular well characteristic;

analyzing a change of the particular well characteristic using at least two of the plurality of the measurements to obtain an interpretation of the change of the particular well characteristic; and

displaying the interpretation of the change of the particular well characteristic using a graphical representation.

156. The method of claim 155 wherein at least one of the steps of obtaining the well characteristic or generating the price of the drilling operation comprises utilizing a data processing system.

157. The method of claim 156 wherein the data processing system comprises at least one of the following:

a computer system or a handheld device.

158. The method of claim 155 wherein the drilling operation comprises utilizing a neural network.

159. The method of claim 155 wherein the well characteristics are obtained by a computer system over a communication link.

160. The method of claim 159 wherein the communication link comprises at least one of the following:

a direct connection, a private network, a virtual private network, a local area network, a wide area network, an Internet-based communication system, a wireless communication system, or a satellite communication system.

161. The method of claim 155 wherein generating the price of the drilling operation comprises determining a reference value for the well characteristic.

The method of claim 161 wherein generating the price of the drilling operation comprises determining a reference value total for the drilling operation based on a plurality of reference values, wherein each of the plurality of reference values is determined for a particular well characteristic of the drilling operation.

163. The method of claim 162 wherein generating the price of the drilling operation further comprises generating the price of the drilling operation substantially based on the reference value total.

164. The method of claim 155 wherein the well characteristic comprises at least one of the following:

a bottom-hole static temperature, an applicable environmental regulation, a vertical depth, a type of formation, a type of hydrocarbon, a geographical area, a formation porosity, a formation permeability, a desired pump rate, a desired density of treatment fluid, a desired level of fluid loss control, a desired pump time, an existence of a thief zone, a corrosion potential, a pipe friction, or an existence of reactive shale.

165. The method of claim 155 further comprising applying a profitability factor to the generated price of the drilling operation.

166. The method of claim 155 further comprising applying a discount factor to the generated price of the drilling operation.

167. The method of claim 155 further comprising transmitting the generated price of the drilling operation to a user.

168. The method of claim 167 wherein the user accepts the generated price that was transmitted.

169. The method of claim 168 further comprising completing a sale of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the generated price of the drilling operation.

170. The method of claim 169 wherein completing the sale comprises utilization of an online purchasing technique.

171. The method of claim 155 further comprising performing the drilling operation.

172. A computer program, stored on a computer-readable medium, for pricing a well servicing treatment using well characteristics, the program constructed and arranged to:

obtain a well characteristic of the well servicing treatment; and

generate a price of the well servicing treatment based on the well characteristic, wherein the price is generated while the well servicing treatment is in progress.

173. The computer program of claim 172 wherein to obtain the well characteristic, the program is further constructed and arranged to transmit a list of possible well servicing treatments to a user.

174. The computer program of claim 173 wherein to obtain the well characteristic, the program is further constructed and arranged to receive a selection of the well servicing treatment to be priced from the user based on the transmitted list of possible well servicing treatments.

175. The computer program of claim 174 wherein to obtain the well characteristic, the program is further constructed and arranged to transmit to the user a list of one or more well characteristics to input based on the well servicing treatment that was selected.

176. The computer program of claim 175 wherein to obtain the well characteristic, the program is further constructed and arranged to receive from the user input of the well characteristic of the well servicing treatment based on the transmitted list.

177. The computer program of claim 172 wherein to generate the price of the well servicing treatment, the program is further constructed and arranged to determine a reference value for the well characteristic.

The computer program of claim 177 wherein to generate the price of the well servicing treatment, the program is further constructed and arranged to determine a reference value total for the well servicing treatment based on a plurality of reference values, wherein each of the plurality of reference values is determined for a particular well characteristic of the well servicing treatment.

179. The computer program of claim 178 wherein to generate the price of the well servicing treatment, the program is further constructed and arranged to generate the price of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the reference value total.

180. The computer program of claim 172 wherein the program is further constructed and arranged to apply a profitability factor to the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

181. The computer program of claim 172 wherein the program is further constructed and arranged to apply a discount factor to the generated-price of the well servicing treatment.

183. The computer program of claim 182 wherein the program is further constructed and arranged to complete a sale of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

184. The computer program of claim 183 wherein completing the sale comprises utilization of an expedited online purchasing technique.

185. A data processing system for pricing a well servicing treatment, comprising:

a processor;

a memory communicatively coupled to the processor; and

software operable to execute on the processor to;

obtain a well characteristic of the well servicing treatment, and

generate a price of the well servicing treatment based on the well characteristic, wherein the price is generated while the well servicing treatment is in progress.

186. The data processing system of claim 185 wherein to obtain the well characteristic, the software is further operable to transmit a list of possible well servicing treatments to a user.

187. The data processing system of claim 186 wherein to obtain the well characteristic, the software is further operable to receive a selection of the well servicing treatment to be priced from the user based on the transmitted list of possible well servicing treatments.

188. The data processing system of claim 187 wherein to obtain the well characteristic, the software is further operable to transmit to the user a list of one or more well characteristics to input based on the well servicing treatment that was selected.

189. The data processing system of claim 188 wherein to obtain the well characteristic, the software is further operable to receive from the user input of the well characteristic of the well servicing treatment based on the transmitted list.

190. The data processing system of claim 185 wherein to generate the price of the well servicing treatment, the software is further operable to determine a reference value for the well characteristic.

191. The data processing system of claim 190 wherein to generate the price of the well servicing treatment, the software is further operable to determine a reference value total for the well servicing treatment based on a plurality of reference values, wherein each of the plurality of reference values is determined for a particular well characteristic of the well servicing treatment.

192. The data processing system of claim 191 wherein to generate the price of the well servicing treatment, the software is further operable to generate the price of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the reference value total.

193. The data processing system of claim 185 wherein the software is further operable to apply a profitability factor to the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

194. The data processing system of claim 185 wherein the software is further operable to apply a discount factor to the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

195. The data processing system of claim 185 wherein the software is further operable to transmit the generated price of the well servicing treatment to a user.

196. The data processing system of claim 195 wherein the software is further operable to complete a sale of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

197. The data processing system of claim 196 wherein completing the sale comprises utilization of an expedited online purchasing technique.

198. The data processing system of claim 185 wherein the processor comprises one central processing unit or is distributed across one or more processors in one or more locations.

199. The data processing system of claim 185 further comprising an interface communicatively coupled with the processor for connecting the data processing system to a communication link.

201. The data processing system of claim 185 wherein the data processing system comprises at least one of the following:

203. A method of pricing and providing a well servicing treatment by a user based on one or more well characteristics, comprising:

determining a well characteristic of the well servicing treatment;

generating a price of the well servicing treatment based on the well characteristic; and

providing the well servicing treatment, wherein all the steps of determining the well characteristic, generating the price, and providing the well servicing treatment are performed by the user.

103. The method of claim 203 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises a cementing operation and wherein the method further comprises:

determining cement data for each cement composition of a set of cement compositions;

using the cement data to calculate a total maximum stress difference for each of the set of cement compositions;

determining well events;

comparing the well characteristic and well event stress states to the cement data from each of the set of cement compositions to determine effective cement compositions for the cementing operation;

determining risk of cement failure for the effective cement compositions; and

transmitting the generated price of the cementing operation from a user to a customer.

104. The method of claim 103 wherein at least one of the steps of obtaining the well characteristic or generating the price of the cementing operation comprises utilizing a data processing system.

105. The method of claim 104 wherein the data processing system comprises at least one of the following:

a computer system or a handheld device.

106. The method of claim 103 wherein the cementing operation comprises utilizing a neural network.

107. The method of claim 103 wherein the well characteristic is determined utilizing a computer system, wherein the computer system is capable of generating the price of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the well characteristic.

108. The method of claim 107 wherein the well characteristic is obtained from a second computer system that is communicatively coupled to the computer system via a communication link.

109. The method of claim 108 wherein the communication link comprises at least one of the following:

a direct connection, a private network, a virtual private network, a local area network, a wide area network, an Internet-based communication system, a wireless communication system, or a satellite communication system.

111. The method of claim 107 wherein determining the well characteristic further comprises transmitting to the user a list of one or more well characteristics to input.

112. The method of claim 111 wherein obtaining the well characteristic further comprises receiving from the user input of the well characteristic of the well servicing treatment based on the transmitted list.

113. The method of claim 103 wherein generating the price of the cementing operation comprises determining a reference value for the well characteristic.

The method of claim 113 wherein generating the price of the cementing operation further comprises determining a reference value total for the cementing operation based on a plurality of reference values, wherein each of the plurality of reference values is determined for a particular well characteristic of the well servicing treatment.

115. The method of claim 114 wherein generating the price of the cementing operation further comprises generating the price of the cementing operation substantially based on the reference value total.

116. The method of claim 103 wherein the well characteristic comprises at least one of the following:

a bottom-hole static temperature, an applicable environmental regulation, a vertical depth, a type of formation, a type of hydrocarbon, a geographical area, a formation porosity, a formation permeability, a desired pump rate, a desired density of treatment fluid, a desired level of fluid loss control, a desired pump time, an existence of a thief zone, a corrosion potential, a pipe friction, or an existence of reactive shale.

117. The method of claim 103 further comprising applying a profitability factor to the generated price of the cementing operation.

118. The method of claim 103 further comprising applying a discount factor to the generated price of the cementing operation.

120. The method of claim 103 wherein the customer accepts the generated price that was transmitted.

121. The method of claim 120 further comprising completing a sale of the cementing operation substantially based on the price of the cementing operation.

122. The method of claim 121 wherein completing the sale comprises utilization of an online purchasing technique.

124. The method of claim 103 wherein the well events comprise at least one of the following:

cement hydration, pressure testing, a well completion, hydraulic fracturing, hydrocarbon production, fluid injection, formation movement, perforation, or subsequent drilling.

125. The method of claim 103 wherein the cement data comprises at least one of the following:

Young'"'"'s modulus, Poisson'"'"'s ratio, the Mohr-Columb plastic parameters, tensile strength, unconfined and confined triaxial data, hydrostatic data, oedometer data, compressive strength, porosity, or permeability.

204. The method of claim 203 wherein at least one of the steps of determining the characteristic, generating a price of the well servicing treatment, or providing the well servicing treatment comprises utilizing a data processing system.

205. The method of claim 204 wherein the data processing system comprises at least one of the following:

a computer system or a handheld device.

206. The method of claim 203 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises at least one of the following:

a drilling, a completion, or a workover operation.

207. The method of claim 203 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises at least one of the following:

a drilling, a fracturing, an acidizing, a logging, a cementing, a gravel packing, a perforating, or a conformance operation.

208. The method of claim 203 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises nanoparticles.

utilizing a mathematical algorithm or utilizing a look-up table.

The method of claim 210 wherein generating the price of the well servicing treatment further comprises determining a reference value total for the well servicing treatment based on a plurality of reference values, wherein each of the plurality of reference values is determined for a particular well characteristic of the well servicing treatment.

213. The method of claim 212 wherein the reference value total is a summation of the plurality of reference values.

214. The method of claim 213 wherein generating the price of the well servicing treatment further comprises generating the price of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the reference value total.

215. The method of claim 214 wherein generating the price of the well servicing treatment based on the reference value total comprises at least one of the following:

utilizing a mathematical algorithm or utilizing a look-up table.

216. The method of claim 203 wherein the well characteristic comprises at least one of the following:

a bottom-hole static temperature, an applicable environmental regulation, a vertical depth, a type of formation, a type of hydrocarbon, a geographical area, a formation porosity, a formation permeability, a desired pump rate, a desired density of treatment fluid, a desired level of fluid loss control, a desired pump time, an existence of a thief zone, a corrosion potential, a pipe friction, or an existence of reactive shale.

221. The method of claim 220 wherein the price is transmitted to the second user of a second computer system that is communicatively coupled to the computer system via a communication link.

222. The method of claim 221 wherein the communication link comprises at least one of the following:

a direct connection, a private network, a virtual private network, a local area network, a wide area network, an Internet-based communication system, a wireless communication system, or a satellite communication system.

223. The method of claim 219 wherein the second user accepts the price that was transmitted.

224. The method of claim 219 further comprising completing a sale of the well servicing treatment substantially based on the generated price of the well servicing treatment.

225. The method of claim 224 wherein completing the sale comprises utilization of an online purchasing technique.

226. The method of claim 225 wherein the online purchasing technique is an expedited online purchasing technique.

227. The method of claim 203 wherein the well servicing treatment comprises at least one of the following:
