Abstract

In accordance with the teachings of the present invention, a system and method for transporting an ancillary data packet in the active area of a video stream are provided. In particular embodiments of the present invention, the method includes coupling a playback server and a digital video projector with a DVI link; placing an ancillary data packet of link encryption metadata in a false line of video in an active area of a frame of video at the playback server, a remainder of the active area comprising true lines of video; transmitting the ancillary data packet from the playback server to a digital video projector through the DVI link; extracting the ancillary data packet from the frame of video at the digital video projector; and displaying the remainder of the active area of the frame of video at the digital video projector.

Claims

1. A method for transporting ancillary data in an active area of a video stream, comprising:

coupling a playback server and a digital video projector with a DVI link;

placing an ancillary data packet of link encryption metadata in a false line of video in an active area of a frame of video at the playback server, a remainder of the active area comprising true lines of video;

transmitting the ancillary data packet from the playback server to a digital video projector through the DVI link;

extracting the ancillary data packet from the frame of video at the digital video projector; and

displaying the remainder of the active area of the frame of video at the digital video projector.

2. A method for transporting ancillary data in an active area of a video stream, comprising:

placing an ancillary data packet in a false line of video in an active area of a frame of video at the playback server; and

transmitting the ancillary data packet from the playback server to a digital video projector.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising extracting the ancillary data packet from the frame of video at the digital video projector.

4. The method of claim 2, further comprising coupling the playback server and digital video projector with a DVI link;

and

wherein transmitting the ancillary data packet comprises transmitting the ancillary data packet through the DVI link.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the ancillary data packet comprises link encryption metadata.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the ancillary data comprises a current link encryption key, a future link encryption key, a current frame count, a number of video links, or an AES synchronization word.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein the ancillary data comprises an ancillary data flag, a primary data identification, a secondary data identification, or a data count.

8. The method of claim 2, wherein the false line of video is placed as a first line of video in the active area of the frame of video.

9. The method of claim 2, wherein a remainder of the active area of the frame of video comprises true lines of video.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising displaying the remainder of frame of video at the digital video projector.

11. The method of claim 2, further comprising discarding a remainder of the false line of video after extracting the ancillary data packet from the frame of video at the digital video projector.

12. A system for transporting ancillary data in an active area of a video stream, comprising:

a digital video projector operable to receive an ancillary data packet in a false line of video in an active area of a frame of video and to extract the ancillary data packet from the frame of video.

13. The system of claim 12, further comprising a playback server operable to place the ancillary data packet in the false line of video in the active area of the frame of video and transmit the frame of video to the digital video projector.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the playback server is further operable to place true lines of video in a remainder of the active area of the frame of video.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the digital video projector is further operable to display the remainder of the active area of the frame of video.

16. The system of claim 13, further comprising a video link coupling the playback server and digital video projector;

wherein the playback server is further operable to transmit the frame of video to the digital video projector through the video link.

17. The system of claim 15, wherein the video link comprises a DVI link.

18. The system of claim 12, wherein the ancillary data packet comprises link encryption metadata.

19. The system of claim 12, wherein the ancillary data packet comprises a current link encryption key, a future link encryption key, a current frame count, a number of video links, and an AES synchronization word.

20. The system of claim 12, wherein the ancillary data packet comprises an ancillary data flag, a primary data identification, a secondary data identification, and a data count.
