- an expandable frame having a first portion and a second portion;
a membrane mounted on the first portion of the frame, the membrane having an outer region and an inner region, the membrane having an opening in the inner region, wherein the membrane is biodegradable;
wherein during use, the expandable frame expands to conform to the aorta and the membrane at least partially occludes the aorta thereby increasing cerebral perfusion.

10. A method for temporarily increasing cerebral blood flow in a patient, comprising the steps of:

inserting an expandable filter device into the aorta; and
expanding the filter device to partially occlude the aorta and increase cerebral blood flow;
