Abstract

A graphic user interface is disclosed that combines a traditional trading, bookkeeping system or clearing system window with a detailed margin and/or collateral asset calculation analysis window on a single screen. The disclosed GUI provides the flexibility to analyze any combination of products or instrument classes such as single stock futures, futures (of all types), options (of all types), forward contracts, security options, securities and cash-based assets. Conventional systems merely block entry of orders beyond a predetermined credit limit or display clearing/bookkeeping information on all types of portfolio or accounts. The disclosed GUI, in an automated real-time or manual execution control basis, provide the user useful information (all types of numerical and/or graphical display) concerning which products contribute to and how much each product position contribute to the margin limits on, for example, multiple levels; all types of product level, product period (duration) level, account level and clearing level, etc. In one embodiment, the margin window may include a “what if” Scenario Panel and an “Actuals” Margin Analysis Panel. This Scenario Panel allows the user to experiment with “what-if” scenarios in real time or on an as-needed basis. This allows the user to better assess the changes an “actual” position(s) or “what-if” position(s) may have on the margin requirements on all account level types. Further, the actual panel displays the account'"'"'s actual positions and the associated contributions each position has to that account'"'"'s margin requirements.

Claims

1. A graphic user interface for presenting margin analysis to a user trading products on an exchange, the graphic user interface comprising:

a trading information portion operative to display first data representative of the user'"'"'s trading activities; and

a margin information portion operative to display second data representative of the user'"'"'s margin limits with respect to the trading activities; and

wherein the graphic user interface presents the trading information portion and the margin information portion simultaneously to the user.

2. The graphic user interface of claim 1 wherein the trading information portion comprises at least one of a trading window, a bookkeeping window, a clearing window, or combinations thereof.

3. The graphic user interface of claim 1 wherein the user'"'"'s trading activities comprise at least one product and at least one position associated with the at least one product, the margin information portion displaying contributions of the at least one position on the user'"'"'s margin limits.

4. The graphic user interface of claim 1 wherein the contributions may be selectively displayed based on a status of the at least one product, the at least one position, or combinations thereof.

5. The graphic user interface of claim 1 wherein the status may include one of product type, product period, account, clearing.

6. The graphic user interface of claim 1 wherein the margin information portion is updated in real time.

7. The graphic user interface of claim 1 wherein the margin information portion displays the second data in a graphical format.

The graphic user interface of claim 1 wherein the margin information portion is further divided into first and second sub-portions, the first sub-portion operative to display actual data representative actual margin requirements, the second sub-portion operative to display hypothetical data representative of possible margin requirements for at least one possible trading scenario.

The graphic user interface of claim 1, further comprising a collateral information portion operative to display data representative of at least one of account level of collateral on deposit, ledger balance, open trade equity, updated information of margin in excess or deficit, or combinations thereof.

10. The graphic user interface of claim 1,

operative to be displayed on a wired device.

11. The graphic user interface of claim 1,

operative to be displayed on a wireless device.

12. The graphic user interface of claim 1,

further comprising a audio interface operative to facilitate audible interaction with a user.

13. The graphic user interface of claim 12, wherein the audio interface is further operative to generate at least one of an audible alert, audible message, audible prompts, or combinations thereof.

14. The graphic user interface of claim 1, further comprising an appearance capable of being perceived by a user as being substantially three-dimensional.

15. A method for presenting margin analysis to a user trading products on an exchange, the method comprising:

displaying, in a trading information portion, first data representative of the user'"'"'s trading activities; and

displaying, in a margin information portion, second data representative of the user'"'"'s margin limits with respect to the trading activities; and

presenting the trading information portion and the margin information portion simultaneously to the user.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein the trading information portion comprises at least one of a trading window, a bookkeeping window, a clearing window, or combinations thereof.

17. The method of claim 15 wherein the user'"'"'s trading activities comprise at least one product and at least one position associated with the at least one product, the margin information portion displaying contributions of the at least one position on the user'"'"'s margin limits.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein the contributions may be selectively displayed based on a status of the at least one product, the at least one position, or combinations thereof.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein the status may include one of product type, product period, account, clearing.

20. The method of claim 15 further comprising updating the margin information portion in real time.

21. The method of claim 15 wherein the displaying of the second data in the margin information portion further comprises displaying the second data in a graphical format.

The method of claim 15 wherein the margin information portion is further divided into first and second sub-portions, the method further comprising displaying, in the first sub-portion, actual data representative actual margin requirements, and displaying, in the second sub-portion, hypothetical data representative of possible margin requirements for at least one possible trading scenario.

23. The method of claim 15, further comprising displaying, in a collateral information portion, data representative of at least one of account level of collateral on deposit, ledger balance, open trade equity, updated information of margin in excess or deficit, or combinations thereof.

24. The method of claim 15, wherein the presenting further comprises presenting the trading information portion and the margin information portion on a wired device.

25. The method of claim 15, wherein the presenting further comprises presenting the trading information portion and the margin information portion on a wireless device.

26. The method of claim 15, further comprising interacting audibly, via an audio interface, with a user.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the audio interface is further operative to generate at least one of an audible alert, audible message, audible prompts, or combinations thereof.

28. The method of claim 15, wherein the displaying further comprises displaying with an appearance capable of being perceived by a user as being substantially three-dimensional.

29. A system for presenting margin analysis to a user trading products on an exchange, the method comprising:

means for displaying, in a trading information portion, first data representative of the user'"'"'s trading activities; and

means for displaying, in a margin information portion, second data representative of the user'"'"'s margin limits with respect to the trading activities; and

means for presenting the trading information portion and the margin information portion simultaneously to the user.
