Abstract

The present invention includes a graphics software program that automatically creates graphical content when a user creates or modifies a hierarchical list of content data and chooses from one of a plurality of graphical definition choices for the graphical elements. In addition, the present invention includes a user interface with three different displays. The first display presents the user with one or more galleries including a gallery with a plurality of graphical definitions. The second display is a content entry area. The final display is a drawing canvas.

Claims

1. ) A method for creating a graphical content, comprising:

receiving content;

providing a plurality of graphical definitions to be combined with the content to create the graphical content; and

automatically creating the graphical content based on the content.

2. ) A method according to claim 1, comprising:

receiving a choice of graphical definition from the user; and

automatically creating the graphical content based on the choice of graphical definition choice and the content.

3. ) A method according to claim 1, wherein the content includes one of textual data, audio data, or visual data.

4. ) A method according to claim 3, wherein the content includes one or more formats to the textual data that cause one or more changes in the graphical content.

5. ) A method according to claim 3, wherein the textual data is a hierarchical list.

6. ) A method according to claim 1, wherein the user enters the content in a content entry area.

7. ) A method according to claim 6, wherein the content is received when the user copies and pastes content into the content entry area.

8. ) A method according to claim 6, wherein the content is received when the user types in the content entry area.

9. ) A method according to claim 6, wherein the content is linked to information in another application.

10. ) A method according to claim 1, wherein the graphical content is based on the content and a default graphical definition.

11. ) A method according to claim 1, wherein the graphical definitions comprises a presentation definition or style definitions.

12. ) A method according to claim 11, wherein the presentation definition comprises one or more categories of diagrams.

13. ) A method according to claim 1, wherein the graphical content is automatically created as the content is received.

14. ) A method according to claim 1, wherein a server computer system receives the content, and the server automatically creates the graphical content to send to a client computer system.

15. ) A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for performing steps comprising:

receiving content;

providing a plurality of graphical definitions to be combined with the content to create the graphical content; and

automatically creating the graphical content based on the content.

16. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 15, comprising:

receiving a choice of graphical definition from the user; and

automatically creating the graphical content based on the choice of graphical definition choice and the content.

17. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 15, wherein the content includes one of textual data, audio data, or visual data.

18. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 17, wherein the content includes one or more formats to the textual data that cause one or more changes in the graphical content.

19. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 17, wherein the textual data is a hierarchical list.

20. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 15, wherein the user enters the content in a content entry area.

21. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 20, wherein the content is received when the user copies and pastes content into the content entry area.

22. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 20, wherein the content is received when the user types in the content entry area.

23. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 20, wherein the content is linked to information in another application.

24. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 15, wherein the graphical content is based on the content and a default graphical definition.

25. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 15, wherein the graphical definitions comprises a presentation definition or style definitions.

26. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 25, wherein the presentation definition comprises one or more categories of diagrams.

27. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 15, wherein the graphical content is automatically created as the content is received.

28. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 15, wherein a server computer system receives the content, and the server automatically creates the graphical content to send to a client computer system.

29. ) A method for editing graphical content, comprising:

presenting the graphical content, wherein the graphical content is created according to content in a content entry area and a choice from a plurality of graphical definitions;

receiving one or more changes to the graphical content; and

automatically modifying one or more elements of the graphical content according to the one or more changes as the one or more changes are received.

30. ) A method according to claim 29, wherein the one or more changes are to the content in the content entry area.

31. ) A method according to claim 29, wherein the one or more changes is a new choice from the plurality of graphical definitions, wherein new graphical content is created according to the new choice of graphical definition and the content.

32. ) A method according to claim 29, wherein the graphical content is presented in a drawing canvas.

33. ) A method according to claim 32, wherein the one or more changes are directly to the graphical content in the drawing canvas and are reproduced in the content in the content entry area.

34. ) A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for performing steps comprising:

presenting the graphical content, wherein the graphical content is created according to content in a content entry area and a choice from a plurality of graphical definitions;

receiving one or more changes to the graphical content; and

automatically modifying one or more elements of the graphical content according to the one or more changes as the one or more changes are received.

35. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 34, wherein the one or more changes are to the content in the content entry area.

36. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 34, wherein the one or more changes is a new choice from the plurality of graphical definitions, wherein new graphical content is created according to the new choice of graphical definition and the content.

37. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 34, wherein the graphical content is presented in a drawing canvas.

38. ) A computer-readable medium according to claim 37, wherein the one or more changes are directly to the graphical content in the drawing canvas and are reproduced in the content in the content entry area.

39. ) In a computer system having a graphical user interface including a display device and one or more user interface selection devices, a method of providing graphical content, comprising:

presenting a plurality of graphical definitions;

presenting a content entry area;

presenting a drawing canvas;

receiving content in the content entry area; and

presenting graphical content in the drawing canvas according to the content received in the content entry area.

40. ) A computer system of claim 39, comprising:

receiving a choice of graphical definition from the plurality of graphical definitions; and

presenting the graphical content according to the choice of graphical definition and the content.

41. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein the content includes textual data.

42. ) A computer system according to claim 41, wherein the content includes one or more formats to the textual data that cause one or more changes in the graphical content.

43. ) A computer system according to claim 41, wherein the textual data is a hierarchical list.

44. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein the content is received when the user copies and pastes content into the content entry area.

45. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein the content is received when the user types in the content entry area.

46. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein the content is linked to information in another application.

47. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein some of the content in the content area is not displayed in the drawing canvas.

48. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein the graphical content is based on the content and a default graphical definition.

49. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein the graphical definition comprises a presentation definition or style definitions

50. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein the graphical definitions are at least one of a text description or a visual example.

51. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein the graphical content is automatically created in the drawing canvas as the content is received in the content entry area.

52. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein the content is automatically created in the content entry area as graphical content is received in the drawing canvas.

53. ) A computer system according to claim 39, further comprising a live preview of the graphical content before presenting the graphical content in the drawing canvas.

54. ) A computer system according to claim 39, comprising:

receiving one or more changes to the graphical content; and

automatically modifying one or more elements of the graphical content according to the one or more changes as the one or more changes are received.

55. ) A computer system according to claim 54, wherein the one or more changes are to the content in the content entry area.

56. ) A computer system according to claim 54, wherein the one or more changes is a new choice from the plurality of graphical definitions, wherein new graphical content is created according to the new choice of graphical definition and the content.

57. ) A computer system according to claim 54, wherein the one or more changes are directly to the graphical content in the drawing canvas and are reproduced in the content in the content entry area.

58. ) A computer system according to claim 39, wherein a server computer system receives the content, and the server automatically creates the graphical content to send to a client computer system.
