Abstract

A bed for a person is provided. The bed includes a frame, a deck, and a mattress. The bed further includes a plurality of foot-operated controls configured to control features of the bed.

Claims

1. A patient support comprising:

a frame;

a deck supported by the frame;

an actuator configured to move a portion of the deck relative to the frame; and

a foot operated control supported by the frame, the foot operated control including a pedal configured to pivot between a first position and a second position to control movement of the actuator.

2. The patient support of claim 1, wherein the deck comprises a head section and a foot section, wherein the actuator is configured to move the foot section relative to the head section.

3. The patient support of claim 2, wherein the first position of the pedal adjusts the foot section away from the head section.

4. The patient support of claim 3, wherein the second position of the pedal adjusts the foot section towards the head section.

5. The patient support of claim 4, wherein the second position is located below the first position.

6. The patient support of claim 4, wherein the second position is located above the first position.

7. The patient support of claim 4, wherein the first position adjusts the foot section beneath a patient'"'"'s heel.

8. The patient support of claim 4, wherein the second position adjusts the foot section beneath a patient'"'"'s heel.

9. The patient support of claim 4, further comprising a mattress supported by the deck, the mattress including a retractable foot portion configured to have an adjustable length, the retractable foot portion including a foam portion and a heel pressure relief portion.

10. The patient support of claim 9, wherein the heel pressure relief portion comprises an air bladder.

11. The patient support of claim 10, wherein the foam portion comprises a cavity into which the air bladder is positioned.

12. The patient support of claim 4, wherein the foot operated control comprises an electrical foot operated control.

13. A patient support comprising:

a frame;

a deck supported by the frame;

an actuator configured to move the deck relative to the frame; and

a foot operated control supported by the frame, the foot operated control including a first pedal configured to pivot between a first position and a second position spaced from the first position in order to control movement of the actuator, and a second pedal positioned in spaced relation to the first pedal, the second pedal configured to pivot between a first position and a second position spaced from the first position.

14. The patient support of claim 13, wherein the first position of the first pedal is configured to raise the deck.

15. The patient support of claim 14, wherein the second position of the first pedal is configured to lower the deck.

16. The patient support of claim 15, wherein the first pedal is configured to include an intermediate position, located between the first position and the second position, the intermediate position configured to provide no movement of the deck.

17. The patient support of claim 15, wherein the frame comprises a base frame and an intermediate frame, wherein the intermediate frame is disposed between the base frame and the deck.

18. The patient support of claim 17, wherein the deck comprises a head section and a foot section, wherein the first position of the second pedal is configured to move the foot section with respect to the head section.

19. The patient support of claim 18, wherein the first position of the second pedal adjusts the foot section away from the head section.

20. The patient support of claim 13, wherein the foot operated control comprises an electrical foot operated control.
