Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention comprise systems, methods and devices for imaging device notification access control.

Claims

1. A method for imaging device notification subscription access control, said method comprising:

a) sending an event subscription request from a subscribing application to a notification application on an imaging device (IDev);

b) receiving said event subscription request from said subscribing application at said IDev notification application;

c) sending a credential from a subscribing application to a notification application on an imaging device (IDev);

d) receiving said credential from said subscribing application on said IDev notification application;

e) authenticating said credential; and

f) authorizing a subscription when said credential is successfully authenticated.

2. A method as described in claim 1 further comprising said IDev notification application requesting said credentials from said subscribing application after receiving a subscription request.

3. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said subscription request comprises said credentials.

4. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said authenticating is performed only after determining that said subscription request requires credential authentication.

5. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said authenticating is performed only after determining said subscription request is a global subscription request.

6. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said authenticating is performed only after determining said subscription request is for a protected job.

7. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said sending is at least partially accomplished with an XML/SOAP message.

8. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said receiving is at least partially accomplished with an XML/SOAP message.

9. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said subscribing application resides on said IDev.

10. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said subscribing application resides on a remote computing device (RCD).

11. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said notification application is a Web Service Method.

12. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said credential is received from user input at an imaging device user interface (UI).

13. A method for imaging device access control, said method comprising:

a) sending an event subscription request from a subscribing application to a notification application on an imaging device (IDev);

b) receiving said event subscription request from said subscribing application on said IDev notification application;

c) sending a credential from a subscribing application to a notification application on an imaging device (IDev);

d) receiving said credential from said subscribing application on said IDev notification application;

e) sending said credential from said notification application to an authentication application.

f) authenticating said credential at said authentication application; and

g) authorizing a subscription when said credential is authenticated;

14. A method as described in claim 13 wherein said subscription request comprises said credentials.

15. A method as described in claim 13 wherein said authentication application resides on said IDev.

16. A method as described in claim 13 wherein said authentication application resides on a remote computing device (RCD).

17. A method as described in claim 13 wherein said granting a subscription when said credential is authenticated is done by said authenticating application.

18. An apparatus for imaging device access control, said apparatus comprising:

a) a subscribing application comprising;

i) a subscribing sender for sending at least one of a subscription request and a credential,

ii) a subscribing receiver for receiving an event notification, and

iii) a credential for authenticating said subscription application;

b) an imaging device (IDev) notification application comprising;

i) a notification receiver for receiving a subscription request, and

ii) a notification sender for sending an event notification;

c) a credential authenticator for authenticating said credential; and

d) a communication network linking said subscribing application, said IDev notification application and said credential authenticator;

e) wherein said subscribing sender may send said subscription request and said credential from said subscribing application to said IDev notification receiver;

f) wherein said IDev notification receiver may receive said credential from said subscribing sender and may send said credential to said credential authenticator;

g) wherein said credential authenticator may authenticate said credential; and

h) wherein said notification application sender may send an event notification subscription to said subscribing application receiver when said credential is successfully authenticated.

19. An apparatus as described in claim 18 wherein said credential authenticator is part of said IDev notification application.

20. An apparatus as described in claim 18 wherein said credential authenticator is an application on a remote computing device (RCD).
