Abstract

Copy-protected optical medium utilizing a composition comprising a transient optical state change security materials constrained to change the optical state light absorption at a wavelength of about 400 nm and an electron transfer agent.

Claims

1. A method comprising the steps of:

(a) disrupting the conjugation in a methylene blue analogous dye molecule so as to move light absorption to a higher energy level or shorter wavelength;

(b) placing the dye of step (a) onto or into an optical medium.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the conjugation is disrupted by forcing electron flow to reduce conjugation.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the conjugation is disrupted by tilting the plane of the ring structure of the dye molecule with one or more than one bulky substituent group.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the conjugation is disrupted by cross-linking the dye compound with a substrate so as to constrain and shorten the molecule.

5. A transient optical state change security material capable of shifting to an activated state having an absorption at about 400 nm comprising a compound of formula I:

6. A high definition DVD comprising a transient optical state change security dye composition which is cross-linked with a substrate affording a constraint on the planar structure of the dye shifting its light absorption capacity to about 400 run.

7. A compound capable of an absorption at 400 nm comprising formula II:

8. An optical medium comprising a reversible transient optical state change material having a phenothiazine backbone in association with an electron transfer agent;

wherein the material transiently changes optical state when exposed to a wavelength of about 400 nm to about 780 nm.

9. An optical medium of claim 8 wherein the electron transfer agent is at least one of the compounds sleected from the group consisting of:

triethanol amine, diethanol amine, TMG, DMEA, DEMEA, TMED, EDTA Bis-Tris, p-tolylimido diethanol, N-tert-butyldiethanol amine, 4-morpholine ethanol, 1,4-bis-2-hydroxyethyl piperazine, bicine, BES, 3-pyrrolidino-1,2-propanediol, 1-amino-3,3-diethoxypropane, (S)-3-tert-butylamino-1,2-propanediol, DL-isoproterenol sulfate dihydrate, N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-methoxyaniline, 1,1′

-[[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]imino]bis-2-propanol, triethanolamine ethoxylate, 2,2′

10. An optical medium of claim 8 wherein the electron transfer agent is positioned with respect to the optical state change material so as to be capable of providing electrons to the material in its activated state.
