1. A steering sensing apparatus for measuring steering actions of a driver of a motor vehicle having a steerable wheel, the steering sensing apparatus comprising:

  • two transducers, each for transmitting a signal to a target, receiving a reflected signal from the target, and for providing an output electrical signal representative of the distance between the transducer and the target, and a support on which the transducers are mounted in spaced apart relationship and are oriented such that, in use, each transducer transmits a signal to a target location on the steerable wheel, which target locations are on the same side of and are oppositely spaced from the centre of the steerable wheel, whereby the output electrical signals of the two transducers are combinable to derive a signal representative of the magnitude of steering movements of the steerable wheel about a generally vertical central axis through the steerable wheel for providing a measure of the steering actions of the driver of the motor vehicle.
