Abstract

A method and computer usable medium storing a computer program for performing failed wireless communication diagnostics are disclosed. A failed transmission condition is recognized. A cleared number communication channel is established between a telematics unit and either a service provider or a call center responsive to the received failed transmission condition. A communication device identifier is sent to the service provider. A communication parameter associated with data generated by the service provider is received at the telematics unit.

Claims

1. A method of performing failed wireless communication diagnostics, the method comprising:

recognizing a failed transmission condition;

establishing a first cleared number communication channel between a telematics unit and a service provider responsive to the failed transmission condition;

sending a communication device identifier to the service provider from the telematics unit; and

receiving a communication parameter from the service provider at the telematics unit.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein recognizing the failed transmission condition comprises recognizing a lack of a return handshake from a wireless carrier system.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein sending the communication device identifier comprises sending an electronic serial number.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving a communication parameter from the service provider at the telematics unit comprises receiving a mobile identification number from the service provider at the telematics unit.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the communication parameter comprises an enabling communication parameter, the method further comprising:

establishing an authenticated communication channel between the telematics unit and a call center; and

sending the enabling communication parameter to the call center.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the communication parameter comprises a non-enabling communication parameter, the method further comprising:

establishing a second cleared number communication channel between the telematics unit and a call center;

sending the non-enabling communication parameter to the call center.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising sending the communication identifier to the service provider from the call center.

8. The method of claim 6, further comprising receiving the communication parameter from the call center at the telematics unit.

9. The method of claim 6, further comprising receiving a call command to establish a third cleared communication channel between the telematics unit and the call center after a predetermined period of time has elapsed.

10. A computer readable medium storing a computer program for performing failed wireless communication diagnostics, comprising:

computer readable code for recognizing a failed transmission condition;

computer readable code for establishing a first cleared number communication channel between a telematics unit and a service provider responsive to the failed transmission condition;

computer readable code for sending a communication device identifier to the service provider from the telematics unit; and

computer readable code for receiving a communication parameter from the service provider at the telematics unit.

11. The computer readable medium of claim 10, wherein the computer readable code for recognizing the failed transmission condition comprises computer readable code for recognizing a lack of a return handshake from a wireless carrier system.

12. The computer readable medium of claim 10, wherein the computer readable code for sending the communication device identifier comprises computer readable code for sending an electronic serial number.

13. The computer readable medium of claim 10, wherein the computer readable code for receiving a communication parameter from the service provider at the telematics unit comprises computer readable code for receiving a mobile identification number from the service provider at the telematics unit.

14. The computer readable medium of claim 10, wherein the communication parameter comprises an enabling communication parameter, the computer readable medium further comprising:

computer readable code for establishing an authenticated communication channel between the telematics unit and a call center; and

computer readable code for sending the enabling communication parameter to the call center.

15. The computer readable medium of claim 10, wherein the communication parameter comprises a non-enabling communication parameter and the computer readable medium further comprises:

computer readable code for establishing a second cleared number communication channel between the telematics unit and a call center;

computer readable code for sending the non-enabling communication parameter to the call center.

16. The computer readable medium of claim 15, further comprising computer readable code for sending the communication identifier to the service provider from the call center.

17. The computer readable medium of claim 15, further comprising computer readable code for receiving the communication parameter from the call center at the telematics unit.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 15, further comprising computer readable code for receiving a call command to establish a third cleared communication channel between the telematics unit and the call center after a predetermined period of time has elapsed.

19. A method of performing failed wireless communication diagnostics, the method comprising:

recognizing a failed transmission condition;

establishing a first cleared number communication channel between a telematics unit and a call center responsive to the failed transmission condition;

sending a communication device identifier to a service provider from the call center; and

receiving a communication parameter from the call center at the telematics unit.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein recognizing the failed transmission condition comprises recognizing a lack of a return handshake from a wireless carrier system.

21. The method of claim 19, wherein sending the communication device identifier comprises sending an electronic serial number.

22. The method of claim 19, wherein receiving the communication parameter from the call center at the telematics unit comprises receiving a communication parameter received by the call center from the service provider.

23. The method of claim 19, wherein the communication parameter is selected from the group consisting of a mobile activation parameter, a mobile deactivation parameter and a mobile identification number.

24. The method of claim 19, further comprising receiving a call command to establish a second cleared communication channel between the telematics unit and the call center after a predetermined period of time has elapsed.

25. A computer readable medium storing a computer program for performing failed wireless communication diagnostics, the method comprising:

computer readable code for recognizing a failed transmission condition;

computer readable code for establishing a first cleared number communication channel between a telematics unit and a call center responsive to the failed transmission condition;

computer readable code for sending a communication device identifier to a service provider from the call center; and

computer readable code for receiving a communication parameter from the call center at the telematics unit.

26. The computer readable medium of claim 25, wherein the computer readable code for recognizing the failed transmission condition comprises computer readable code for recognizing a lack of a return handshake from a wireless carrier system.

27. The computer readable medium of claim 25, wherein the computer readable code for sending the communication-device identifier comprises computer readable code for sending an electronic serial number.

28. The computer readable medium of claim 25, wherein the computer readable code for receiving the communication parameter from the call center at the telematics unit comprises computer readable code for receiving a communication parameter received by the call center from the service provider.

29. The computer readable medium of claim 25, wherein the communication parameter is selected from the group consisting of a mobile activation parameter, a mobile deactivation parameter and a mobile identification number.

30. The computer readable medium of claim 25, further comprising computer readable code for receiving a call command to establish a second cleared communication channel between the telematics unit and the call center after a predetermined period of time has elapsed.
