Abstract

Disclosed is a medical effector system containing a bar code reader to identify equipment and accessories to be used in combination with the medical effector system. The barcode reader is adapted to read the packaging of a respiratory cannula, a drug delivery cassette assembly, a drug vial or package of a drug vial and other medical equipment. The medical effector system further includes a memory to associate predetermined characteristics with the bar codes read by the bar code reader.

Claims

1. A medical-effector-system procedure room unit comprising:

a) a capnometer adapted to receive directly or indirectly respiratory gas obtained from a single-patient-use cannula which is disposable on the face of a patient; and

c) a barcode reader assembly adapted to read a barcode of a package containing a cannula.

2. The medical-effector-system procedure room unit of claim 1, also including a drug-delivery infusion pump housing adapted to receive a single-patient-use drug-delivery cassette assembly, wherein the barcode reader assembly is adapted to read a barcode of a package containing a drug-delivery cassette assembly.

3. The medical-effector-system procedure room unit of claim 2, wherein the cassette assembly is adapted to receive a drug vial containing a drug, and wherein the barcode reader assembly is adapted to read a barcode of the drug vial containing the drug and/or a barcode of a package containing the drug vial containing the drug.
