Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for voice buffering for a VOVC PTT call. The buffering starts before the VOVC call is established.

Claims

1. A method for processing wireless communication audio information, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving a voice channel push to talk request;

recording first audio information;

receiving a voice channel call connect message; and

transmitting the first audio information over a voice channel.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:

selecting a first digital signal processing image before the step of receiving the voice channel call connect message.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising the step of:

identifying a second digital signal processing image producing an identification of the second digital signal processing image, responsive to the step of receiving the voice channel call connect message.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the second digital signal processing image is the same as the first digital signal processing image.

5. The method of claim 3, further comprising the step of:

recording second audio information using the first digital signal processing image, after the step of receiving the voice channel call connect message.

6. The method of claim 3, further comprising the step of:

storing an indicator that the first audio information is being recorded;

intercepting the identification of the second digital signal processing image;

retaining the first digital signal processing image; and

recording second audio information using the first digital signal processing image, after the step of intercepting the identification of the second digital signal processing image.

7. The method of claim 3, further including the steps of:

receiving a

the step of selecting includes selecting an enhanced variable rate CODEC vocoder image; and

the step of recording includes recording the audio information in an enhanced variable rate CODEC format.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:

waiting a predetermined time period between the steps of;

receiving a voice channel call connect message and

transmitting the first audio information over a voice channel.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising the steps of:

determining whether a wireless communication device is roaming or not roaming;

waiting a second predetermined time period in addition to the first predetermined time period if the device is roaming.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:

receiving an indication over a wireless communication channel that the step of recording should be performed.

12. A method for processing wireless communication audio information, the method comprising the steps of:

acquiring a digital communication system;

receiving a voice channel push to talk request;

recording audio information;

receiving a command to switch to an analog communication system; and

discarding the audio information, responsive to the command to switch to the analog communication system.

13. A method for processing wireless communication audio information, the method comprising the steps of:

acquiring an analog communication system;

receiving a push to talk request;

transmitting a call origination message;

receiving an analog call connect signal;

generating an audio signal after receiving the analog call connect signal; and

transmitting the audio information to the analog communication system.

14. A method for processing wireless communication audio information, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving a voice channel push to talk request;

recording the audio information;

determining that a maximum time has been reached; and

discarding the recorded audio information in response to the determination that the maximum time as been reached.

15. A wireless communication device comprising:

a transceiver;

a memory; and

a processor connected to the memory and to the transceiver and configured to;

receive a voice channel push to talk request;

record first audio information on the memory;

receive a voice channel call connect message; and

deliver the first audio information to the transceiver for transmission of the recorded audio information over a wireless communication channel on a voice channel.

16. The device of claim 15, wherein the processor is further configured to select a digital signal processing image before receiving a voice channel call connect message.

17. The device of claim 16, wherein the processor is further configured to identify a second digital signal processing image producing an identification of the second digital signal processing image, responsive to the step of receiving the voice channel call connect message.

18. The device of claim 17, wherein the second digital signal processing image is the same as the first digital signal processing image.

19. The device of claim 17, wherein the processor is further configured to record second audio information using the first digital signal processing image, after receiving the voice channel call connect message.

20. The device of claim 17, wherein the processor is further configured to:

store an indicator that the first audio information is being recorded;

intercept the identification of the second digital signal processing image;

retain the first digital signal processing image and

record additional audio information using the first digital signal processing image, after the step of intercepting the identification of the second digital signal processing image.

21. The device of claim 16, wherein the processor is further configured to

select an enhanced variable rate CODEC vocoder image;

and

record the audio information in an enhanced variable rate CODEC format.

22. The device of claim 15, wherein the processor is further configured to wait a predetermined time period between:

receiving a voice channel call connect message and

delivering the recorded audio information over a voice channel.

23. The device of claim 15, wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine whether a wireless communication device is roaming or not roaming; and

wait a second predetermined time period in addition to the first predetermined time period if the device is roaming.

24. The device of claim 15, wherein the processor is further configured to receive a message from the wireless communication channel, the message indicating that the recording should be performed.

25. A wireless communication network comprising:

a base station comprising an antenna for receiving a wireless communication;

a memory;

a processor connected to the memory and to the base station, the processor configured to;

receive a push to talk call origination request;

pass the push to talk call origination request to a push to talk server;

generate a call connect message;

receive audio information that was captured before the call connect message was received.

26. The wireless communictaion network of claim 25, the processor further configured to:

request a digital signal processor image.

27. The wireless communictaion network of claim 26, wherein the digital signal processing image is a vocodor image.

28. The wireless communication network of claim 27, wherein the vocodor image is an enhanced variable rate CODEC image.
