Abstract

The invention is directed to a thick film getter composition comprising: (a) desiccant material; dispersed in (b) organic medium comprising (1) curable organic polymeric binder; (2) monomer; and (3) photoinitiator.

Claims

1. A thick film getter composition comprising:

(a) desiccant material;

dispersed in

(b) organic medium comprising (1) curable organic polymeric binder;

(2) monomer, and (3) photoinitiator,

wherein said desiccant material is selected from the group consisting of zeolites, alkaline earth metal oxides, metal oxides, sulfates, chlorides, bromides, and mixtures thereof,

and wherein said desiccant is not talc or mica.

3. The composition of claim 1 wherein said curable organic polymeric binder is selected from the group consisting of polymeric binders, acrylates, methacrylates, urethane acrylates, epoxy acrylates and mixtures thereof.

4. The composition of claim 1 wherein said monomer is selected from the group consisting of an acrylate monomer, methacrylate monomer, and mixtures thereof.

6. The composition of claims 1 wherein said organic medium comprises 35 to 90 weight percent of the total composition.

7. The composition of claim 1 wherein said composition has been processed at a time and energy sufficient to facilitate photopolymerization of said monomer.

8. A method of moisture control comprising:

(a) providing the getter composition of claims 1;

(b) applying said getter composition to a substrate; and

(c) processing said getter composition and substrate to cure said organic medium, thus forming a substrate with a cured getter composition adhered thereto.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein said substrate is glass.

10. The method of claim 8 further comprising sealing said cured getter composition within an enclosure wherein said substrate is one boundary of said enclosure.

11. An article made by the method of Claim 8.

12. The article of claim 11 wherein said article is a moisture sensitive electronic device.

13. An article comprising the getter composition of claim 1 wherein said composition is processed to cure the organic medium.

15. An article comprising the composition of claim 1, wherein the composition has been processed at a time and energy sufficient to facilitate photopholymeization of said monomer.

16. The article of claim 15, wherein said article is a moisture sensitive electronic device.

31. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition is capable of controlling humidity levels to below about 1000 ppm.

32. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition is capable of allowing quick processing speed, of about 5 seconds.

33. The composition of claim 31, wherein the composition is capable of allowing quick processing speeds. of about 5 seconds, and low processing temperatures.

5. The composition of Claims lwherein said desiccant material comprises 10-65 weight percent of the total composition.

14. The composition of claim I wherein said desiccant material is a zeolite.

17. A thick film getter composition comprising:

(a) desiccant material;

dispersed in

(b) organic medium comprising (1) curable organic polymeric binder;

(2) monomer; and

(3) photoinitiator,

wherein the desiccant material is 1.6-24, or 36-65 weight percent of the total composition.

18. The composition of claim 17 wherein said desiccant material is selected from the group consisting of zeolites, alkaline earth metal oxides, metal oxides, sulfates, chlorides, bromides, and mixtures thereof.

19. The composition of claim 17 wherein said curable organic polymeric binder is selected from the group consisting of polymeric binders acrylates, methacrylates, urethane acrylates, epoxy acrylates and mixtures thereof.

20. The composition of claim 17 wherein said monomer is selected from the group consisting of an acrylate monomer, methacrylate monomer, and mixtures thereof.

21. The composition of claim 17 wherein said composition has been processed at a time and energy sufficient to facilitate photopolymerization of said monomer.

22. The composition of claim 18 wherein said desiccant material is a zeolite.

23. An article comprising the composition of claim 17, wherein the composition has been processed at a time and energy sufficient to facilitate photopholymerization of said monomer.

24. The article of claim 23, wherein said article is a moisture sensitive electronic device.

25. A use of a thick film getter composition comprising:

(a) desiccant material;

dispersed in

(b) organic medium comprising (1) curable organic polymeric binder;

(2) monomer, and (3) photoinitiator, to control moisture.

26. The use of claim 25 to control moisture in a moisture sensitive electronic device.

27. The use of claim 26 wherein the desiccant material comprises 10-65 weight percent of the total composition.

28. The use of claim 25, wherein the composition is capable of controlling humidity levels to below about 1000 ppm.

29. The use of claim 25, wherein the composition is capable of allowing quick processing speeds, of about 5 seconds.

30. The use of claim 28, wherein the composition is capable of allowing quick processing speeds, of about S seconds, and low processing temperatures.
