Abstract

In some embodiments, methods to sense parameters associated with restriction procedures and/or devices are disclosed. In some embodiments, the parameters are sensed directly from the region of the procedure and/or device and in other embodiments, associated neural pathways are sensed. Methods for further optimization of the obesity treatment regimens are also disclosed.

Claims

1. A method of determining a treatment parameter in a patient comprising:

Sensing a parameter associated with the stress on a gastric restriction with an implantable parameter sensing device;

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising;

Interpreting the parameter in relation to the patient'"'"'s treatment regimen;

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

Changing the treatment plan of the patient based on the parameter.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the gastric restriction is an adjustable band.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the gastric restriction is created through a surgical bypass procedure.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the gastric restriction is a transgastric anchoring assembly.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

generating an output signal.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising:

Storing the output signal.

9. The method of claim 7 wherein the output signal is a wireless signal.

14. The method of claim 1 wherein the parameter is sensed on a port in fluid communication with the gastric restriction.

15. The method of claim 1 wherein the sensed parameter is the pressure in the port of an adjustable band.

10. A method of determining a treatment parameter in a morbidly obese patient comprising:

Sensing a parameter associated with the stress on a stomach restriction device;

Sensing a signal generated by a body structure in relation to the parameter.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the signal generated by the body structure is a neural body structure.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the neural body structure is an enteric nervous structure or a visceral nervous structure.

13. The method of claim 10 further comprising:

delivering the signal related to the parameter to a communicator.

16. A method of treating a patient comprising:

Obtaining a signal from a gastric restriction device;

Interpreting the signal from the gastric restriction device;

Changing the state of an obesity treatment system.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the gastric restriction device further comprises:

a band with an adjustable balloon

a port in fluid communication with the adjustable balloon.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein the signal is a pressure reading measured on the port in fluid communication with the adjustable balloon.

19. The method of claim 17 wherein the state is the pressure applied to the stomach by the balloon.

20. The method of claim 16 wherein the obesity treatment system further comprises a device which delivers an electrical signal to a body structure.
