Abstract

The invention provides for the communicating and editing of media files in wireless portable devices. The invention enables a user to manipulate displayed media content and other types of information stored in a personal media device. A master device may be coupled to a display device such as a television display and bonded to a slave device. A user may through use of either the slave device or the master device manipulate media content. The modified media content may be displayed substantially simultaneously on the television display, the master device, and the at least one slave device.

Claims

1. A system for communicating and group editing media content stored in media devices, the system comprising:

a master device;

at least one slave device, the at least one slave device in communication with the master device, the at least one slave device comprising a first display; and

a computer readable medium having computer executable instructions for performing the steps of;

communicating with the master device; and

providing instructions for group editing selected media content, the selected media content associated with related media content, the selected media content and the related media content displayed substantially simultaneously, the selected media content edited to form an edited media content.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the selected media content and the related media content are displayed on the first display of the at least one slave device.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the selected media content is displayed on an external display device and the related media content is displayed on the first display of the at least one slave device.

4. The system of claim 1, further providing instructions for copying the selected media content chosen from the related media content to the selected media content.

5. The system of claim 3, wherein the external display device comprises a television display, the television display also displaying the related media content.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the television display displays an active time period of the media file management application.

7. The system of the claim 6, wherein the television display further displays a time-line presentation of the media file management application.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the selected media content comprises an album.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the at least one slave device comprises a mobile communication device.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the mobile communication device comprises a cellular telephone.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the related media content is stored in the at least one slave device.

12. A system for communicating and group editing media content stored in media devices, the system comprising:

a master device, the master device providing bonding capability;

at least one slave device, the at least one slave device bonding with the master device, the at least one slave device comprising a first display; and

a computer readable medium having computer executable instructions for performing the steps of;

transmitting an active time period of the media file management application to the at least one slave device,

transmitting selected media content corresponding to the active time period of the media file management application to the at least one slave device;

displaying the selected media content in the at least one slave device;

displaying related media content in the at least one slave device, the related media content stored in the at least one slave device, the related media content corresponding to the selected media content;

copying a select media content from the related media content to the selected media content; and

displaying the select media content within the selected content in the master media device.

13. The system of claim 12, further providing instructions for displaying substantially simultaneously the select media content on the master device and on the at least one slave device.

14. The system of claim 12, further comprising a television display in communication with the master device, the television display displaying an active time period of the media file management application.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the television display further displays a time-line presentation of the media file management application.

16. The system of claim 12, wherein the selected media content comprises an album.

17. The system of claim 12, wherein the at least one slave device comprises a mobile communication device.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the mobile communication device comprises a cellular telephone.

19. The system of claim 12, wherein the master device and the at least one slave device bond by a wireless communication medium chosen from the group consisting of BLUETOOTH, wireless local area network (WLAN), radio frequency identification (RFID), and wireless telecom network.

27. The system of claim 12, further comprising an intermediary device that implements the media file management application.

20. The system of claim 20, wherein the related media content comprises an album.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein the related media content comprises a collection.

22. The system of claim 20, wherein the related media content comprises a file folder.

23. The system of claim 20, wherein the related media content is determined by metadata of the selected media content.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the metadata comprises time metadata.

25. The system of claim 23, wherein the metadata comprises topic metadata.

26. The system of claim 23, wherein the metadata comprises file type metadata.

28. A system for group editing media content, the system comprising:

at least one slave device, the at least one slave device, including;

a first display;

a first memory for storing related media content, the related media content displayed in the first display; and

a first communication interface for transmission of the related media content stored in the first memory; and

a master personal mobile server that monitors an environment for the at least one slave device, the master personal mobile server bonded to the at least one slave device, the master personal mobile server including;

a second memory for storing selected media content;

a second communication interface through which the stored selected media content are transmitted to the at least one slave device via a wireless communication network; and

a processor configured to perform the steps of;

transmitting an active time period to the at least one slave device,

displaying the selected media content in the at least one slave device;

displaying related media content in the at least one slave device, the related media content corresponding to the selected media content;

copying a select media content from the related media content to the selected media content; and

displaying the select media content within the selected content in the master personal mobile server.

29. The system of claim 28, wherein the select media content is displayed substantially simultaneously on both the master personal mobile server and the at least one slave device.

30. The system of claim 28, further comprising a television display in communication with the master personal mobile server, the television display displaying an active time period of the media file management application.

31. The system of claim 30, wherein the television display further displays a time-line presentation of the media file management application.

32. The system of claim 28, wherein the selected media content comprises an album.

33. The system of claim 28, wherein the at least one slave device comprises a mobile communication device.

34. The system of claim 33, wherein the mobile communication device comprises a cellular telephone.

35. The system of claim 28, wherein the master personal mobile server and the at least one slave device bond by a wireless communication medium chosen from the group consisting of BLUETOOTH, wireless local area network (WLAN), radio frequency identification (RFID), and wireless telecom network.

36. The system of claim 28, wherein the related media content comprises a collection.

37. The system of claim 28, wherein the related media content comprises a file folder.

38. The system of claim 28, wherein the related media content is determined by metadata of the selected media content.

39. The system of claim 38, wherein the metadata comprises time metadata.

40. The system of claim 38, wherein the metadata comprises topic metadata.

41. The system of claim 38, wherein the metadata comprises file type metadata.

42. The system of claim 38, wherein the metadata comprises a combination of metadata.

43. The system of claim 28, wherein the master personal mobile server monitors the environment for the at least one slave device by control of a master handset.

44. The system of claim 28, wherein the master personal mobile server monitors the environment for at least one slave personal mobile server.

45. The system of claim 28, wherein the at least one slave device is registered to communicate with the master personal mobile server.

46. A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for performing the steps of:

bonding at least one slave device to a master device according to predetermined media file transfer parameters;

transmitting an active time period to the at least one slave device, the active time period displayed in the least one slave device;

transmitting selected media content corresponding to the active time period to the at least one slave device;

displaying the selected media content in the at least one slave device;

displaying related media content in the at least one slave device, the related media content stored in the at least one slave device, the related media content corresponding to the selected media content;

copying a select media content from the related media content to the selected media content; and

displaying the select media content within the selected content in the master media device.

47. The computer readable medium of claim 46, wherein the computer-executable instructions further perform the step of moving select media contents for the related media content to the selected media content.

48. The computer readable medium of claim 46, wherein the selected media content comprises an album.

49. The computer readable medium of claim 46, wherein the at least one slave device comprises a mobile communication device.

50. The computer readable medium of claim 49, wherein the mobile communication device comprises a cellular telephone.

52. The computer readable medium of claim 46, wherein the related media content comprises a collection.

53. The computer readable medium of claim 46, wherein the related media content comprises a file folder.

54. The computer readable medium of claim 46, wherein the related media content is determined by metadata of the selected media content.

55. The computer readable medium of claim 54, wherein the metadata comprises time metadata.

56. The computer readable medium of claim 54, wherein the metadata comprises topic metadata.

57. The computer readable medium of claim 54, wherein the metadata comprises file type metadata.

51. The computer readable medium 46, wherein the master media device and the at least one slave device bond by a wireless communication medium chosen from the group consisting of BLUETOOTH, wireless local area network (WLAN), radio frequency identification (RFID), and wireless telecom network.

58. A method for group editing media content in wireless media devices, the method comprising the steps of:

bonding at least one slave device to a master device according to predetermined media file transfer parameters;

transmitting an active time period from the master device to the at least one slave device;

displaying the active time period in a first display of the at least one slave device;

transmitting selected media content corresponding to the active time period from the master device to the at least one slave device;

displaying the selected media content in the at least one slave device;

displaying related media content in the at least one slave device, the related media content stored in the at least one slave device, the related media content corresponding to the selected media content;

copying a select media content from the related media content to the selected media content; and

displaying the select media content within the selected content in the master device.

59. The method of claim 58, wherein the master device comprises a second display to display the selected media content.

60. The method of claim 58, further comprising a television display in communication with the master device.

61. The method of claim 60, wherein the selected media content is displayed on the television display.

62. The method of claim 58, wherein the selected media content comprises an album.

63. The method of claim 58, wherein the at least one slave device comprises a mobile communication device.

64. The method of claim 63, wherein the mobile communication device comprises a cellular telephone.

65. The method of claim 59, wherein the select media content is substantially simultaneously displayed on both the first display and the second display.

66. The method of claim 61, wherein the select media content is substantially simultaneously displayed on the first display, the second display, and the television display.

67. The method of claim 58, wherein the selected media content comprises a thumbnail.
