Abstract

An apparatus for holding a starter motor for testing has a base, a first pad mounted to the base that provides a support rest to a first side of the starter motor, a ratcheting arm having a second pad for contacting a second, opposite side of the starter motor, and a pivotal ratchet assembly to grip the starter motor between the two pads.

Claims

1. An apparatus for holding a starter motor for testing, comprising:

a base;

a first pad mounted to the base that provides a support rest to a first side of the starter motor;

a ratcheting arm having a second pad for contacting a second, opposite side of the starter motor; and

a pivotal ratchet assembly to grip the starter motor between the two pads.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the ratchet accordingly comprises a ratchet arm and a ratchet support mounted to the base to which the ratchet handle is pivotally attached.

3. The apparatus according to claim 2, when the ratchet assembly comprises a pawl slidably mounted respect to the pivoting ratchet arm and teeth provided on the ratchet support.

4. The apparatus according to claim 2, further comprising a release handle for releasing the engagement of the ratchet assembly.

5. The apparatus according to claim 3, further comprising a release handle for releasing the engagement of the ratchet assembly.

6. The apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a release handle for releasing the engagement of the ratchet assembly.

7. The apparatus according to claim 1, when the first pad is made of a resilient material.

8. The apparatus according to claim 7, wherein the second pad is made of a resilient material.

9. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the second pad is made of a resilient material.

10. An apparatus for holding a starter motor for testing, comprising:

a base;

supporting means mounted to the base for supporting a first side of the starter motor; and

ratcheting contacting means for contacting a second, opposite side of the starter motor to grip the starter motor between the supporting means and the contacting means.

11. The apparatus according to claim 10, wherein the contacting means comprises a ratchet support mounted to the base and a ratchet handle pivotally attached to the ratchet support.

12. The apparatus according to claim 11, when the ratchet handle comprises a pawl slidably mounted with respect to the ratchet handle and teeth provided on the ratchet support.

13. The apparatus according to claim 10, further comprising means for releasing the engagement of the contacting means.

14. The apparatus according to claim 10, when the supporting means comprises a first pad made of a resilient material.

15. The apparatus according to claim 14 wherein the contacting means comprises a second pad made of a resilient material.

16. The apparatus according to claim 10, wherein the contacting means comprises a second pad mad of a resilient material.

17. The apparatus according to claim 10, further comprising a release handle for releasing the engagement of the ratcheting contacting means.

19. The method according to claim 10, wherein the contacting step comprises pivoting a ratchet handle with respect to a ratchet support.

18. A method for holding a starter motor for testing, comprising:

resting a first side of the starter motor on a base; and

contacting a second, opposite side of the starter motor with a ratcheting arm having a pad to grip the starter motor between the base and the ratcheting arm.

20. The method according to claim 18, further comprising releasing the engagement of the ratchet assembly via a release handle.
