Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention comprise systems, methods and devices for imaging device event notification.

Claims

1. A method for imaging device (IDev) event notification, said method comprising:

a) detecting a specific IDev event;

b) checking an event subscription record for an entry related to said specific event; and

c) sending an event notification to a subscribing application when said entry related to said event is found on said event subscription record.

2. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said event subscription record comprises a job identification.

3. A method as described in claim 2 further comprising determining if said job was in progress when said event occurred and performing said sending an event notification only when said job was in progress when said event occurred.

4. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said event subscription record comprises a delivery mechanism designation.

5. A method as described in claim 4 wherein said sending is performed using a delivery mechanism designated in said delivery mechanism designation.

6. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said event subscription record further comprises a subscribing application address.

7. A method as described in claim 6 wherein said sending comprises sending an event notification to said subscribing application at said subscribing application address.

8. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said sending is at least partially accomplished with an XML/SOAP message.

9. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said subscribing application resides on said IDev.

10. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said subscribing application resides on a remote computing device (RCD).

11. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said checking is performed by a Web Service Method.

12. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said specific IDev event comprises an imaging device function.

13. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said specific IDev event comprises the execution of a designated step by an imaging device application.

14. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said specific IDev event comprises the execution of a designated step by an application remote to said IDev.

15. An apparatus for imaging device event notification, said apparatus comprising:

a) a detector for detecting a specific IDev event;

b) a notification application sender;

c) a subscription record checker;

d) a subscription record;

e) wherein said checker may check said subscription record to determine whether said specific IDev event is identified on said subscription record and said sender may send said event notification from said notification application to a subscribing application when said specific IDev event is identified on said subscription record.

16. An apparatus as described in claim 15 wherein said subscription record comprises a job type and said subscription record checker may further determine whether said subscription record relates said specific IDev event to a global or a job-specific subscription.

17. An apparatus as described in claim 16 further comprising a component for determining if a job is currently in progress.

18. An apparatus as described in claim 17 wherein said sender sends said event notification only when said job is in progress if said specific IDev event is related to a job-specific subscription.

19. An apparatus as described in claim 15 wherein said subscription record checker may also determine a delivery mechanism from said subscription record.

20. An apparatus as described in claim 15 wherein said subscription record checker may determine a subscription application address from said subscription record.
