Abstract

The present invention is directed to a system and method of monitoring assets of an enterprise, wherein the assets perform a process and include machines subject to vibration. The system includes a vibration diagnostic software system integrated with a process automation system and a computerized maintenance management system to provide a single window interface for controlling and monitoring a process, for monitoring and analyzing the vibration of the machines associated with the process and for managing the maintenance of the machines. This integration brings vibration data collection, transmission, analysis, historical recording, display and maintenance activities all together in a defined workflow.

Claims

1. A system for use in controlling a process of an enterprise and for providing a condition diagnosis of a machine in the enterprise based on vibration data collected from the machine, said system comprising:

at least one computer;

a monitor connected to the at least one computer;

a diagnostic software system running on the at least one computer, said diagnostic software system being operable to provide the condition diagnosis of the machine based on the collected vibration data;

a human system interface (HSI) running on the at least one computer and being communicably connected to the diagnostic software system, said HSI having at least one workspace for display on the monitor, wherein the at least one workplace includes dynamic elements that can be manipulated by an operator to change control parameters for the process and a view for displaying the condition diagnosis of the machine from the diagnostic software system; and

a notification system running on the at least one computer and being communicably connected to the diagnostic software system and the HSI, said notification system being operable to generate and transmit an electronic notification to the HSI and operating personnel when the condition diagnosis of the machine changes.

The system of claim 1, wherein the diagnostic software system includes a web server operable to generate a web page containing the condition diagnosis of the machine, and wherein the HSI further comprises a client communicably connected to the web server of the diagnostic software system to obtain the web page therefrom.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the at least one workplace includes a first frame having the dynamic elements and a second frame for displaying the web page from the diagnostic software system.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the at least one workplace further includes a third frame for displaying a list of objects representing assets of the enterprise, including the machine, said third frame being disposed adjacent to the second frame.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein each of the objects for the assets has a plurality of aspects associated therewith, and wherein the object for the machine has an aspect for displaying the web page as a view in the second frame of the at least one workplace.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the at least one workplace further includes a fourth frame for displaying a list of aspects for a selected one of the objects.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the at least one workplace comprises first and second workplaces, said first workplace containing the first frame and said second workplace containing the second, third and fourth frames.

The system of claim 1, wherein the at least one computer comprises a vibration monitoring work station computer and a control work station computer, wherein the diagnostic software system runs on the vibration monitoring work station computer and the HSI runs on the control work station computer, and wherein the vibration monitoring work station computer and the control work station computer are connected together by at least one Ethernet cable.

The system of claim 1, wherein the HSI is operable to submit a fault report for an abnormal condition of the machine, and wherein the system further comprises a maintenance management system running on the at least one computer and being communicably connected to the HSI, said maintenance management system being operable to generate and transmit an electronic work order to maintenance personnel when the maintenance management system receives the fault report from the HSI.

18. The system of claim 1, wherein the data collector is portable and is temporarily connectable to the at least one machine to collect the vibration data therefrom.

10. A system for monitoring and controlling assets of an enterprise, wherein the assets perform a process and include at least one machine subject to vibration, said system comprising:

a data collector operable to collect vibration data from the at least one machine subject to vibration;

at least one computer;

a monitor connected to the at least one computer;

a diagnostic software system running on the at least one computer, said diagnostic software system being operable to receive the vibration data from the data collector and to provide at least one condition diagnosis of the at least one machine subject to vibration, based on the vibration data;

a field device operable to measure and transmit an operating value of the process that is not vibration and is not from a machine that is being monitored for vibration;

a process automation system for monitoring and controlling the process, said process automation system being connected to the diagnostic software system to receive the condition diagnosis therefrom and being connected to the field device for receiving the operating value of the process therefrom, said process automation system including;

a controller having a microprocessor that runs a control routine for controlling at least a portion of the process; and

a human system interface (HSI) running on the at least one computer, said HSI being operable to display the at least one condition diagnosis of the at least one machine and the operating value of the process on the monitor of the at least one computer.

The system of claim 10, wherein the at least one computer comprises a vibration monitoring work station computer and a control work station computer, wherein the diagnostic software system runs on the vibration monitoring work station computer, and wherein the control work station computer is a component of the process automation system.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the monitor is connected to the control work station.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein the at least one machine subject to vibration comprises a plurality of machines subject to vibration and wherein the diagnostic software system is operable to provide a condition diagnosis for each of the machines subject to vibration.

The system of claim 13, wherein the HSI has a workspace comprising first and second frames, wherein objects for the machines subject to vibration may be displayed in a list in the first frame, and wherein a view of an aspect of a selected one of the objects may be displayed in the second frame.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the workspace further comprises a third frame in which a list of all aspects of the selected one of the objects may be displayed.

The system of claim 15, wherein the diagnostic software system is operable to generate a web page for each of the machines subject to vibration, wherein each web page contains the condition diagnosis of its associated machine, and wherein the objects for the machines have aspects for displaying the web pages as views in the second frame of the workplace.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the HSI comprises a second workplace from which the process may be controlled, said second workplace comprising dynamic elements that may be manipulated by an operator to change control parameters for the process.

19. The system of claim 10, wherein the process automation system further comprises a first server running on the at least one computer, said first server being communicably connected to the diagnostic software system to obtain the at least one condition diagnosis of the machine therefrom;

and

a second server running on the at least one computer, said second server being communicably connected to the field device to obtain the operating value therefrom.

The system of claim 19, wherein the diagnostic software system includes a web server operable to generate at least one web page containing the at least one condition diagnosis of the at least one machine subject to vibration, wherein the first server is communicably connected to the web server of the diagnostic software system to obtain the at least one web page therefrom, and wherein the second server is an OPC server.

21. A method of monitoring assets of an enterprise, wherein the assets perform a process and include at least one machine subject to vibration, said method comprising:

collecting vibration data from the at least one machine;

generating a condition diagnosis of the at least one machine based on the collected vibration data;

measuring an operating value of the process that is not vibration and is not from a machine that is being monitored for vibration; and

displaying the condition diagnosis of the machine and the operating value on a computer monitor.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the displaying of the condition diagnosis comprises displaying the condition diagnosis of the machine in a first frame of a human system interface (HSI) on the computer monitor and displaying the operating value in a second frame of the HSI on the computer monitor.

23. The method of claim 22, further comprising generating a web page containing the condition diagnosis of the at least one machine, and wherein the web page is displayed in the first frame of the HSI.

24. The method of claim 22, further comprising manipulating a dynamic element in the second frame of the HSI to change control parameters of the process.

25. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

determining if the condition diagnosis of the machine is for an abnormal condition; and

if the condition diagnosis is for an abnormal condition, generating a work order for transmittal to maintenance personnel to remedy the abnormal condition.

26. The method of claim 25, further comprising:

generating an alarm if the condition diagnosis is for an abnormal condition; and

displaying the alarm on the computer monitor.
