Abstract

Methods, systems, and products are provided for deploying Java applications in resource constrained environments. Embodiments include identifying a resource constraint of a target system and filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint. In many embodiments, identifying a resource constraint of a target system includes identifying limited runtime processing capabilities of the target system and filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint includes preprocessing a tag library of the Java application. In some embodiments, preprocessing a tag library is carried out by identifying a tag library descriptor of the Java application and copying a listener from the tag library descriptor to a deployment descriptor for the Java application.

Claims

1. A method for deploying Java applications in resource constrained environments:

identifying a resource constraint of a target system; and

filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein:

identifying a resource constraint of a target system further comprises identifying limited runtime processing capabilities of the target system; and

filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint further comprises preprocessing a tag library of the Java application.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein preprocessing a tag library further comprises:

identifying a tag library descriptor of the Java application; and

copying a listener from the tag library descriptor to a deployment descriptor for the Java application.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising identifying to a Java runtime platform the copying of the listener from the tag library descriptor to the deployment descriptor.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein:

identifying a resource constraint of a target system further comprises identifying that the target system has no XML parser; and

filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint further comprises replacing a static XML deployment descriptor with a deployment descriptor readable without an XML parser.

6. The method of claim 5 further comprising identifying to a Java runtime platform the replacing of a static XML deployment descriptor with a deployment descriptor readable without an XML parser.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein:

identifying a resource constraint of a target system further comprises identifying a target system having limited processing capacity; and

filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint further comprises;

identifying a hierarchy of classes of the Java application stored in a single file; and

storing each class of the hierarchy as a separate file accessible to the Java application.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising decompressing the single file containing the hierarchy of classes.

12. The system of claim 11 further comprising means for identifying to a Java runtime platform the copying of the listener from the tag library descriptor to the deployment descriptor.

9. A system for deploying Java applications in resource constrained environments:

means for identifying a resource constraint of a target system; and

means for filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint.

10. The system of claim 9 wherein:

means for identifying a resource constraint of a target system further comprises means for identifying limited runtime processing capabilities of the target system; and

means for filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint further comprises means for preprocessing a tag library of the Java application.

11. The system of claim 10 wherein means for preprocessing a tag library further comprises:

means for identifying a tag library descriptor of the Java application; and

means for copying a listener from the tag library descriptor to a deployment descriptor for the Java application.

13. The system of claim 9 wherein:

means for identifying a resource constraint of a target system further comprises means for identifying that the target system has no XML parser; and

means for filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint further comprises means for replacing a static XML deployment descriptor with a deployment descriptor readable without an XML parser.

14. The system of claim 13 further comprising means for identifying to a Java runtime platform the replacing of a static XML deployment descriptor with a deployment descriptor readable without an XML parser.

15. The system of claim 9 wherein:

means for identifying a resource constraint of a target system further comprises means for identifying a target system having limited processing capacity; and

means for filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint further comprises;

means for identifying a hierarchy of classes of the Java application stored in a single file; and

means for storing each class of the hierarchy as a separate file accessible to the Java application.

16. The system of claim 15 further comprising means for decompressing the single file containing the hierarchy of classes.

17. A computer program product for deploying Java applications in resource constrained environments:

a recording medium;

means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying a resource constraint of a target computer program product; and

means, recorded on the recording medium, for filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint.

18. The computer program product of claim 17 wherein:

means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying a resource constraint of a target computer program product further comprises means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying limited runtime processing capabilities of the target computer program product; and

means, recorded on the recording medium, for filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint further comprises means, recorded on the recording medium, for preprocessing a tag library of the Java application.

19. The computer program product of claim 18 wherein means, recorded on the recording medium, for preprocessing a tag library further comprises:

means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying a tag library descriptor of the Java application; and

means, recorded on the recording medium, for copying a listener from the tag library descriptor to a deployment descriptor for the Java application.

20. The computer program product of claim 19 further comprising means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying to a Java runtime platform the copying of the listener from the tag library descriptor to the deployment descriptor.

21. The computer program product of claim 17 wherein:

means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying a resource constraint of a target computer program product further comprises means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying that the target computer program product has no XML parser; and

means, recorded on the recording medium, for filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint further comprises means, recorded on the recording medium, for replacing a static XML deployment descriptor with a deployment descriptor readable without an XML parser.

22. The computer program product of claim 21 further comprising means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying to a Java runtime platform the replacing of a static XML deployment descriptor with a deployment descriptor readable without an XML parser.

23. The computer program product of claim 17 wherein:

means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying a resource constraint of a target computer program product further comprises means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying a target computer program product having limited processing capacity; and

means, recorded on the recording medium, for filtering the Java application in dependence upon the identified resource constraint further comprises;

means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying a hierarchy of classes of the Java application stored in a single file; and

means, recorded on the recording medium, for storing each class of the hierarchy as a separate file accessible to the Java application.

24. The computer program product of claim 23 further comprising means, recorded on the recording medium, for decompressing the single file containing the hierarchy of classes.
