The head assembly also provides simple and reliable tensioning of the strings. The method of forming the instrument includes in-molded frets to ensure their planarity and alignment.

17. A method for forming a fingerboard for a stringed musical instrument comprising the steps of:

providing a mold having a first series of depressions and a second series of depressions within the first series of depressions;
positioning a series of frets within the second series of depressions;
positioning a sheet of matrix material and a resin over the series of frets;
pressing the sheet of matrix material and resin against the mold and frets; and
