Medical fluid machine with air purging pump
First Claim
1. A medical fluid machine comprising:
- a housing providing a first wall and a second wall, the first and second walls at least partially defining a pump chamber;
a fluid receptacle located within the pump chamber, the fluid receptacle including first and second flexible membranes configured to be moved apart to accept a medical fluid and moved together to dispel the fluid;
a medical fluid outlet in communication with the fluid receptacle;
a first valve arrangement configured to enable medical fluid in a sufficiently air-free condition to be delivered from the receptacle through the medical fluid outlet to a patient; and
a second valve arrangement configured to enable medical fluid with entrained air to be delivered instead from the receptacle through the medical fluid outlet to an entrained air destination.

Abstract
A medical fluid machine includes a housing providing a first wall and a second wall, the first and second walls at least partially defining a pump chamber. A fluid receptacle is located within the pump chamber, the fluid receptacle including first and second flexible membranes configured to be moved apart to accept a medical fluid and moved together to dispel the fluid. A medical fluid outlet is in communication with the fluid receptacle. A first valve arrangement is configured to enable medical fluid in a sufficiently air-free condition to be delivered from the receptacle through the medical fluid outlet to a patient. A second valve arrangement is configured to enable medical fluid with entrained air to be delivered instead from the receptacle through the medical fluid outlet to an entrained air destination.

17. A medical fluid machine comprising:
-
a housing providing a first wall and a second wall, the first and second walls at least partially defining a pump chamber;
a fluid receptacle located within the pump chamber, the fluid receptacle including first and second flexible membranes configured to be moved apart to accept a medical fluid and moved together to dispel the fluid;
a medical fluid outlet in communication with the fluid receptacle;
a piston; and
a logic implementer operable with the piston so that when air becomes entrained in the medical fluid, the logic implementer causes the piston to;
(i) push a portion of the medical fluid from the receptacle through the outlet;
(ii) retract, enabling the first membrane to move away from the first wall; and
(iii) push the second membrane so that the first and second membranes become at least substantially flush with each other, dispelling at least substantially all the air entrained within the receptacle. - View Dependent Claims (18, 19, 20)

21. A medical fluid machine comprising:
-
a housing providing a first wall and a second wall, the first and second walls at least partially defining a pump chamber;
a fluid receptacle located within the pump chamber, the fluid receptacle including first and second flexible membranes configured to be moved apart to accept a medical fluid and moved together to dispel the fluid;
a vacuum source in pneumatic communication with a first portion of the pump chamber located between the first wall and the first membrane; and
a logic implementer configured to;
(i) cause the vacuum source to apply a vacuum to the first portion of the chamber when the medical fluid is in a sufficiently air-free condition; and
(ii) cause the first portion of the chamber to be free from the vacuum when air becomes entrained in the medical fluid. - View Dependent Claims (22, 23, 24, 25)
