1. A method for providing a virtual service switching function, comprising:

  • receiving a first message from a switch in a telephone network indicative of initiation of a call, the first message comprising a service parameter that is applicable to the call;

    responsively to the service parameter, invoking first and second service control points (SCPs) to provide respective first and second services in relation to the call; and

    sending a second message to the switch, in response to the first message, instructing the switch to carry out the call using at least one of the first and second services.
