a) An adjustable lens system adapted for modifying a visual input to an eye of a subject; and
b) A processor comprising;
i) A signal analyzer for determining an indicator of visual focal condition from neural activity detected from said subject; and

a) A signal input adapted to receive a time-varying visual focal condition signal detected from the body of a subject;
b) A pre-processor function configured to pre-process said visual focal condition signal to generate a pre-processed signal, wherein said pre-processor performs at least one of filtering, amplification, artifact removal, clutter removal, and noise reduction;
c) A signal analyzer function configured to determine from said pre-processed signal at least one quality parameter reflecting the quality of a visual input to said subject; and
d) A lens system controller configured to receive as inputs said at least one quality parameter and a lens system state signal from an adjustable lens system, and to generate as output a lens system control signal for driving said adjustable lens system, wherein said lens system control signal is a time-varying signal for providing on-going adaptive control of said adjustable lens system. - View Dependent Claims (24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32)

33. A method of modifying a view of a visual environment, comprising the steps of:

a) detecting a neural signal from a subject, said neural signal containing information relating to the focal condition on a retina of said subject of an image of at least a portion of the view of said environment;
b) extracting said information relating to said focal condition from said neural signal;
c) determining a modification to said imaged view based upon said information relating to said focal condition; and
d) adjusting an optical system to produce said modification to said imaged view.

34. A system for providing adaptive vision modification, comprising:

a) A detector for measuring neural activity produced in a subject in response to a real-time varying visual input to an eye of said subject;
b) A signal analyzer for analyzing said neural activity to obtain an indicator of a focal condition of said visual input;
c) An image modulator for modifying said visual input; and

43. A method of controlling a lens system, comprising the steps of:

a) Detecting a neural signal from the nervous system of a subject;
b) Detecting a visual focus-related event in said neural signal, the visual focus-related event correlating with a visual input to at least one eye of said subject; and
