Abstract

In a video processing system, a method and system for joint broadcast receiving and cellular communication via a mobile terminal or device with UMTS as an integration channel are provided. Broadcast information may be received at a mobile terminal via a VHF/UHF broadcast communication path. Cellular information, comprising voice and data, may be received at the mobile terminal from a bidirectional cellular communication path. Broadcast information may be received at the mobile terminal via the bidirectional cellular communication path. The information may be received from a service provider. Uplink cellular related information may be transmitted via an uplink path of the bidirectional cellular communication path. The mobile terminal may comprise a common interface that facilitates communication between at least one cellular processor that processes the cellular information and a broadcast processor that processes the broadcast information.

Claims

1. A method for communicating information via a plurality of different networks, the method comprising:

receiving broadcast information in a mobile terminal via a VHF/UHF broadcast communication path;

receiving cellular information comprising voice and data in said mobile terminal from a bidirectional cellular communication path; and

transmitting said cellular information via an uplink path of said bidirectional cellular communication path, wherein said mobile terminal comprises a common interface that facilitates communication between at least one cellular processor that processes said cellular information and a broadcast processor that processes said broadcast information.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising receiving said broadcast information or said cellular information from a service provider.

3. The method according to claim 2, wherein said service provider determines whether to deliver said broadcast information via said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

4. The method according to claim 2, wherein said service provider is integrated with a wireless service provider that handles said bidirectional cellular communication path.

5. The method according to claim 2, wherein said service provider is integrated with a broadcast service provider that handles said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

6. The method according to claim 2, further comprising generating a request by said mobile terminal that instructs said service provider to deliver said broadcast information via said bidirectional cellular communication path.

7. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

requesting via said uplink path, said broadcast information from said mobile terminal; and

receiving said requested broadcast information via said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

8. The method according to claim 7, further comprising generating a request by said mobile terminal that instructs said service provider to deliver said requested broadcast information via said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

9. The method according to claim 1, further comprising selecting between receiving said broadcast information or said cellular information in said mobile terminal

10. A machine-readable storage having stored thereon, a computer program having at least one code section for communicating information via a plurality of different networks, the at least one code section being executable by a machine for causing the machine to perform steps comprising:

code for receiving broadcast information in a mobile terminal via a VHF/UHF broadcast communication path;

code for receiving cellular information comprising voice and data in said mobile terminal from a bidirectional cellular communication path; and

code for transmitting said cellular information via an uplink path of said bidirectional cellular communication path, wherein said mobile terminal comprises a common interface that facilitates communication between at least one cellular processor that processes said cellular information and a broadcast processor that processes said broadcast information.

11. The machine-readable storage according to claim 10, further comprising code for receiving said broadcast information or said cellular information from a service provider.

12. The machine-readable storage according to claim 11, wherein said service provider determines Whether to deliver said broadcast information via said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

13. The machine-readable storage according to claim 11, wherein said service provider is integrated with a wireless service provider that handles said bidirectional cellular communication path.

14. The machine-readable storage according to claim 11, wherein said service provider is integrated with a broadcast service provider that handles said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

15. The machine-readable storage according to claim 11, further comprising code for generating a request by said mobile terminal that instructs said service provider to deliver said broadcast information via said bidirectional cellular communication path.

16. The machine-readable storage according to claim 10, further comprising:

code for requesting via said uplink path, said broadcast information from said mobile terminal; and

code for receiving said requested broadcast information via said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

17. The machine-readable storage according to claim 16, further comprising code for generating a request by said mobile terminal that instructs said service provider to deliver said requested broadcast information via said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

18. The machine-readable storage according to claim 10, further comprising code for selecting between receiving said broadcast information or said cellular information in said mobile terminal.

19. A system for communicating information via a plurality of different networks, the system comprising:

circuitry that receives broadcast information in a mobile terminal via a VHF/UHF broadcast communication path;

circuitry that receives cellular information comprising voice and data in said mobile terminal from a bidirectional cellular communication path; and

circuitry that transmits said cellular information via an uplink path of said bidirectional cellular communication path, wherein said mobile terminal comprises a common interface that facilitates communication between at least one cellular processor that processes said cellular information and a broadcast processor that processes said broadcast information.

20. The system according to claim 19, further comprising circuitry that receives said broadcast information or said cellular information from a service provider.

21. The system according to claim 20, wherein said service provider determines whether to deliver said broadcast information via said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

22. The system according to claim 20, wherein said service provider is integrated with a wireless service provider that handles said bidirectional cellular communication path.

23. The system according to claim 20, wherein said service provider is integrated with a broadcast service provider that handles said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

24. The system according to claim 20, further comprising circuitry that generates a request by said mobile terminal that instructs said service provider to deliver said broadcast information via said bidirectional cellular communication path.

25. The system according to claim 19, further comprising:

circuitry that requests via said uplink path, said broadcast information from said mobile terminal; and

circuitry that receives said requested broadcast information via said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

26. The system according to claim 25, further comprising circuitry that generates a request by said mobile terminal that instructs said service provider to deliver said requested broadcast information via said VHF/UHF broadcast communication path.

27. The system according to claim 19, further comprising circuitry that selects between receiving said broadcast information or said cellular information in said mobile terminal
