Abstract

Accordingly, a method and apparatus are provided that use implicit de-assignment, instead of explicit deassignment, of resources, such that a mobile terminal can interpret the assignment of the resources to other channel terminals as an implied deassignment of the resources. Thus, reducing the number of assignment or the assignment between the base station and the terminals.

Claims

1. A method of managing assignments of one or more communication system resources, the method comprising acts of:

transmitting an assignment indication, said assignment indication comprising a resource assignment that conflicts with a current assignment of the resource.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising act of determining, prior to said act of transmitting, if said assignment indication can be transmitted without transmitting a deassignment indication for de-assigning assigned resources.

3. The method as claimed in claim 2, wherein said act of determining comprises an act of determining if all the recipients of said assignment indication are within a predetermined range.

4. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said of transmitting further comprising act of transmitting in accordance with a Code Division Multiplex Access (CDMA) scheme.

5. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said of transmitting further comprising act of transmitting in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) scheme.

6. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said act of transmitting further comprising act of transmitting in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) scheme.

7. The method as claimed in claim 3, further comprising act of determining required transmit power prior to said act of transmitting said assignment indication.

8. A method of processing an assignment of one or more resource, the method comprising acts of:

receiving a assignment indication having the assignment of one or more resource;

determining if a resource conflict occurs, wherein the received assignment of one or more resource conflict with one or more currently assigned resource; and

terminating the use of said one or more currently assigned resource if determined that the resource conflict occurred.

9. The method as claimed in claim 8, wherein the act of determining comprises an act of determining if said assignment indication indicates that the currently assigned resources are assigned to a new recipient terminal.

10. The method as claimed in claim 8, wherein said act of terminating said one or more currently assigned resource comprises an act of terminating use of only said one or more resources that are in conflict with the received assignment of resource.

11. The method as claimed in claim 8, wherein said act of terminating said one or more currently assigned resource comprises an act of terminating use of all said one or more currently assigned resources.

12. The method as claimed in claim 8, wherein the said of receiving further comprising act of receiving in accordance with a Code Division Multiplex Access (CDMA) scheme.

13. The method as claimed in claim 8, wherein the said of receiving further comprising act of receiving in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) scheme.

14. The method as claimed in claim 8, wherein said act of receiving further comprising act of receiving in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) scheme.

15. A apparatus for managing assignments of one or more communication system resources, the apparatus comprising:

means for transmitting an assignment indication, said assignment indication comprising a resource assignment that conflicts with a current assignment of the resource.

16. The apparatus as claimed in claim 15, further comprising means for determining, prior to said means for transmitting, if said assignment indication can be transmitted without transmitting a deassignment indication for de-assigning assigned resources.

17. The apparatus as claimed in claim 16, wherein said means for determining comprises means for determining if all the recipients of said assignment indication are within a predetermined range.

18. The apparatus as claimed in claim 15, wherein said means for transmitting comprises means for transmitting said assignment to said first terminal and said new recipient terminal.

19. The apparatus as claimed in claim 15, wherein the said of transmitting further comprising means for transmitting in accordance with a Code Division Multiplex Access (CDMA) scheme.

20. The apparatus as claimed in claim 15, wherein the said of transmitting further comprising means for transmitting in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) scheme.

21. The apparatus as claimed in claim 15, wherein said means for transmitting further comprising means for transmitting in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) scheme.

22. The method as claimed in claim 17, further comprising means for determining required transmit power prior to said act of transmitting said assignment indication.

23. An apparatus for processing an assignment of one or more resource, the apparatus comprising:

means for receiving a assignment indication having the assignment of one or more resource;

means for determining if a resource conflict occurs, wherein the received assignment of one or more resource conflict with one or more currently assigned resource; and

means for terminating the use of said one or more currently assigned resource if determined that the resource conflict occurred.

24. The apparatus as claimed in claim 23, wherein the means for determining comprises means for determining if said assignment indication indicates that the currently assigned resources are assigned to a new recipient terminal.

25. The apparatus as claimed in claim 23, wherein said means for terminating said one or more currently assigned resource comprises means for terminating use of only said one or more resources that are in conflict with the received assignment of resource.

26. The apparatus as claimed in claim 23, wherein said means for terminating said one or more currently assigned resource comprises means for terminating use of all said one or more currently assigned resources.

27. The apparatus as claimed in claim 23, wherein the said of receiving further comprising means for receiving in accordance with a Code Division Multiplex Access (CDMA) scheme.

28. The apparatus as claimed in claim 23, wherein the said of receiving further comprising means for receiving in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) scheme.

29. The apparatus as claimed in claim 24, wherein said means for receiving further comprising means for receiving in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) scheme.

30. In a wireless communication, an apparatus comprising:

an electronic device, said electronic device configured to transmit an assignment indication, said assignment indication comprising a resource assignment that conflicts with a current assignment of the resource.

31. The apparatus as claimed in claim 30, wherein said electronic device further configured to determine, prior to transmitting said assignment indication, if said assignment indication can be transmitted without transmitting a deassignment indication for de-assigning assigned resources.

32. The apparatus as claimed in claim 31, wherein said electronic device further configured to determine if all the recipients of said assignment indication are within a predetermined range.

33. The apparatus as claimed in claim 30, wherein said electronic device further configured to transmit said assignment to said first terminal and said new recipient terminal.

34. The apparatus as claimed in claim 30, wherein said electronic device further configured to transmit in accordance with a Code Division Multiplex Access (CDMA) scheme.

35. The apparatus as claimed in claim 30, wherein said electronic device further configured to transmit in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) scheme.

36. The apparatus as claimed in claim 30, wherein said electronic device further configured to transmit in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) scheme.

37. The apparatus as claimed in claim 32, wherein said electronic device further configured to determine required transmit power prior to said act of transmitting said assignment indication.

38. In a wireless communication, an apparatus comprising:

an electronic device, said electronic device configured to receive a assignment indication having the assignment of one or more resource;

said electronic device further configured to determine if a resource conflict occurs, wherein the received assignment of one or more resource conflict with one or more currently assigned resource; and

said electronic device further configured to terminate the use of said one or more currently assigned resource if determined that the resource conflict occurred.

39. The apparatus as claimed in claim 38, wherein said electronic device further configured to determine if said assignment indication indicates that the currently assigned resources are assigned to a new recipient terminal.

40. The apparatus as claimed in claim 38, wherein said electronic device further configured to terminate use of only said one or more resources that are in conflict with the received assignment of resource.

41. The apparatus as claimed in claim 38, wherein said electronic device further configured to terminate use of all said one or more currently assigned resources.

42. The apparatus as claimed in claim 38, wherein said electronic device further configured to receive in accordance with a Code Division Multiplex Access (CDMA) scheme.

43. The apparatus as claimed in claim 38, wherein said electronic device further configured to receive in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) scheme.

44. The apparatus as claimed in claim 38, wherein said electronic device further configured to receive in accordance with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) scheme.

45. A machine-readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations including:

transmitting an assignment indication, said assignment indication comprising a resource assignment that conflicts with a current assignment of the resource.

46. The machine-readable medium of claim 45, further comprising machine readable instruction to cause determining, if said assignment indication can be transmitted without transmitting a deassignment indication for de-assigning assigned resources.

47. The machine-readable medium as claimed in claim 46, wherein said machine readable instruction to cause determining if all the recipients of said assignment indication are within a predetermined range.

48. The machine-readable medium as claimed in claim 45, wherein said machine readable instruction to cause transmitting comprises of transmitting said assignment to said first terminal and said new recipient terminal.

49. A machine-readable medium of claim 45, further comprising machine readable instruction to cause adjusting transmit power prior to transmitting said assignment indication.

50. A machine-readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations including:

receiving a assignment indication having the assignment of one or more resource;

determining if a resource conflict occurs, wherein the received assignment of one or more resource conflict with one or more currently assigned resource; and

terminating the use of said one or more currently assigned resource if determined that the resource conflict occurred.

51. The machine-readable medium as claimed in claim 50, wherein the machine readable instruction to cause determining comprises of determining if said assignment indication indicates that the currently assigned resources are assigned to a new recipient terminal.

52. The machine-readable medium as claimed in claim 50, wherein said machine readable instruction to cause terminating said one or more currently assigned resource comprises of terminating use of only said one or more resources that are in conflict with the received assignment of resource.

53. The machine-readable medium as claimed in claim 50, wherein said machine readable instruction to cause terminating said one or more currently assigned resource comprises of terminating use of all said one or more currently assigned resources.
