1. A method for controlling an internal combustion engine having an intake manifold fluidly coupled to a turbocharger, the turbocharger having an effect on a manifold air pressure (MAP) and a manifold air flow (MAF) in the intake manifold, the internal combustion engine also having one or more fuel injectors for injecting fuel into the intake manifold of the engine, the method comprising the steps of:

  • injecting a fueling profile into the internal combustion engine using the one or more fuel injectors;

    providing one or more signals that are related to the fueling profile; and

    adjusting the manifold air pressure (MAP) and/or the manifold air flow (MAF) of the air in the intake manifold based, at least in part, on the one or more signals that are related to the fueling profile.
