System and method for charging liftgate batteries
First Claim
1. A system for charging the liftgate batteries on a trailer having an electrically powered liftgate and a trailer electrical system having a trailer electrical system battery electrically connected to the output of a trailer electrical system alternator, comprising:
- an electrical connection between the liftgate batteries and the trailer electrical system alternator, wherein said alternator has current capacity sufficient to power the existing trailer system and to charge the liftgate batteries and the trailer electrical system battery; and
an electrical isolation circuit for isolating the liftgate batteries from the trailer electrical system battery to prevent current from flowing from the trailer electrical system battery to the liftgate batteries.
