Abstract

An apparatus and method for loading catalyst to a fluid catalyst cracking unit are provided. In one embodiment, apparatus for loading catalyst to a fluid catalyst cracking unit includes a vessel disposed in a transportable housing. A plurality of catalyst storage regions are associated with the vessel. A metering device is interfaced with the vessel and configured to provide a metric indicative of an amount of catalyst provided from a selected one of the catalyst storage regions.

Claims

1. Apparatus for loading catalyst to a fluid catalyst cracking unit, comprising:

a transportable housing;

a vessel disposed in the housing;

a plurality of catalyst storage regions associated with the vessel;

a metering device interfaced with the vessel and configured to provide a metric indicative of an amount of catalyst provided from a selected one of the catalyst storage regions.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the housing further comprises a container.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the vessel further comprises:

a plurality of loading ports each associated with a respective catalyst storage region.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising:

a pressure control system coupled to the vessel.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the metering device further comprises:

a sensor configured to determine a change in weight of the vessel.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the metering device further comprises:

a sensor configured to determine a change in volume of catalyst disposed in the vessel.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the metering device further comprises:

a sensor configured to determine a rate of catalyst movement.

9. Apparatus for loading catalyst to a fluid catalyst cracking unit, comprising:

an apparatus configured to selectively provide a plurality of catalysts from separate containers to a fluid catalyst cracking unit (FCCU);

a metering system for determining an amount of catalyst transferred from a respective container to the FCCU; and

a controller coupled to the metering system and containing instructions, that when executed, causes a selective one of the plurality of catalysts to be delivered to the FCCU through the vessel.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the metering system further comprises:

a valve coupled to the vessel and configured to control the a flow of catalyst.

11. The apparatus of claim 9 further comprising:

a sensor coupled to the controller and configured to provide a metric indicative of an amount of catalyst within the vessel.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the metering system to read in response to the metric.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the sensor further comprises:

a load cell.

14. A method of providing catalyst to a fluid catalyst cracking unit, comprising:

providing an injection apparatus having a plurality of separate catalyst storage regions to a fluid catalyst cracking unit (FCCU);

selectively delivering catalyst through the injection apparatus to the FCCU; and

determining an amount of catalyst delivered to the FCCU through the injection apparatus.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein determining the amount of catalyst delivered further comprises:

detecting a change in a weight indicative of a vessel through which catalysts selected form the region passes.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein selectively delivering catalyst through the injection apparatus further comprises:

opening a valve that allows catalyst to flow within the injection apparatus.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein determining the amount of catalyst delivered further comprises:

detecting a change in catalyst level within the injection apparatus.

18. A method of providing catalyst to a fluid catalyst cracking unit, comprising:

flowing a plurality of catalysts into an injection apparatus coupled to a fluid catalyst cracking unit (FCCU); and

pressurizing the injection apparatus prior to injecting a selected one of the catalysts to the FCCU.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein flowing the plurality of catalysts further comprises:

flowing each of the plurality of catalysts into the injection apparatus through a separate port defined in the injection apparatus.

20. The method of claim 18 further comprising:

determining an amount of catalyst delivered to the FCCU through the injection apparatus.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the step of determining further comprises:

detecting a change in weight.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the step of detecting further comprises:

detecting a change in weight in the vessel.
