Abstract

A computerized system and method of building a system of test components for an orderable healthcare procedure is provided. An orderable healthcare procedure is received and associated with a discrete ontology concept. An ontology is traversed for the discrete ontology concept to identify test components related to the discrete ontology concept. The test components related to the discrete ontology concept are identified.

Claims

1. A computerized method of building a system of test components for an orderable healthcare procedure, the method comprising:

receiving an orderable healthcare procedure;

associating the orderable healthcare procedure with a discrete ontology concept;

traversing an ontology for the discrete ontology concept to identify test components related to the discrete ontology concept; and

identifying test components related to the discrete ontology concept.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying the identified related test components.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

receiving selection of the test components.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

building a system of test components for the orderable procedure based on the selection of test components.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the orderable procedure is for a molecular diagnostic screening.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the test components are discrete concepts within an ontology of genomic concepts.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the test components are clinically significant gene mutations.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the test components are related to the discrete ontology concept by defining biological relationships.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the defining biological relationship is a known biological relationship between two molecular entities.

10. The method of claim 6, wherein the discrete ontology concept is a representation of a named molecular entity.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the ontology is an ontology of genomic concepts.

12. A computer readable medium comprising the method of claim 1.

13. A computerized system for building a system of test components for a orderable healthcare procedure, the system comprising:

a receiving component for receiving an orderable healthcare procedure;

an associating component for associating the orderable healthcare procedure with a discrete ontology concept;

a traversing component traversing an ontology for the discrete ontology concept to identify test components related to the discrete ontology concept; and

an identifying component for identifying test components related to the discrete ontology concept.

14. The system of claim 13, further comprising:

a displaying component for displaying the identified related test components

15. The system of claim 14, further comprising:

a second receiving component for receiving selection of the test components

16. The system of claim 15, further comprising:

a building component for building a system of test components for the orderable procedure based on the selection of test components.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the orderable procedure is for a molecular diagnostic test

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the test components are discrete concepts within the ontology.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the test components are clinically significant gene mutations.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the test components are related to the discrete ontology concept by defining biological relationships.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein the defining biological relationship is a known biological relationship between two molecular entities.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein the discrete ontology concept is a representation of a named molecular entity.

23. The system of claim 13, wherein the ontology is an ontology of genomic concepts.

24. A computerized system of building a system of test components for an orderable procedure, the system comprising:

means for receiving an orderable healthcare procedure;

means for associating the orderable healthcare procedure with a discrete ontology concept;

means for traversing an ontology for the discrete ontology concept to identify test components related to the discrete ontology concept;

means for identifying test components related to the discrete ontology concept.

25. The system of claim 24, further comprising:

means for displaying the identified related test components

means for receiving selection of the test components

27. The system of claim 26, further comprising:

means for building a system of test components for the orderable procedure based on the selection of test components.

28. The system of claim 24, wherein the orderable procedure is for a molecular diagnostic test

31. The system of claim 30, wherein the test components are related to the discrete ontology concept by defining biological relationships.
