Abstract

Computerized systems and methods for dynamically rendering reports in a healthcare environment are provided. In accordance with one method of the invention, two XML files are provided. The first XML file contains data representing information to be presented in the report. The second XML file contains data representing a format for the report. The second XML file is converted to an XSL stylesheet and applied to the data contained in the first XML file to create a third XML file. The third XML file contains the data representing the information to be presented in the report and the data representing the format for the report. The report is rendered using the third XML file.

Claims

1. A method in a computer system for dynamically rendering at least one report in a healthcare environment, the method comprising:

providing at least one first XML file, wherein the at least one first XML file contains data representing information to be presented in the at least one report;

providing at least one second XML file, wherein the at least one second XML file contains data representing a format for the at least one report;

converting the at least one second XML file to at least one XSL stylesheet;

applying the at least one XSL stylesheet to the data contained in the at least one first XML file to create at least one third XML file, wherein the at least one third XML file contains the data representing information to be presented in the at least one report and the data representing the format for the at least one report; and

rendering at least one report using the at least one third XML file.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein providing at least one second XML file comprises combining a plurality of template components to form the at least one second XML file.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein combining a plurality of template components to form the at least one second XML file comprises:

identifying the plurality of template components, each of the plurality of template components containing data representing formatting information for the at least one report; and

retrieving the identified plurality of template components.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein converting the at least one second XML file to at least one XSL stylesheet comprises applying at least one intermediary XSL stylesheet to the at least one second XML file.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein rendering the at least one report using the at least one third XML file comprises:

converting the at least one third XML file to at least one XSL-FO file; and

rendering the at least one report from the at least one XSL-FO file.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein converting the at least one third XML file to at least one XSL-FO file comprises applying at least one intermediary XSL stylesheet to the at least one third XML file.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the data representing information to be presented in the at least one report contained in the at least one first XML file comprises at least one of patient information, medical provider information, healthcare facility information, and medical information.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one report comprises a medical record.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one report comprises at least one of a PDF document, a Word document, and an HTML document.

10. One or more computer-readable media having computer-usable instructions for performing the method of claim 1.

11. A computer programmed to perform the method of claim 1.

12. A computerized system for dynamically rendering at least one report in a healthcare environment, the system comprising:

at least one providing component for providing at least one first XML file and at least one second XML file, the at least one first XML file containing data representing information to be presented in the at least one report, and the at least one second XML file containing data representing a format for the at least one report;

at least one XSL processing component for;

(a) converting the at least one second XML file to at least one XSL stylesheet, and

(b) applying the at least one XSL stylesheet to the data contained in the at least one first XML file to create at least one third XML file, wherein the at least one third XML file contains the data representing the information to be presented in the at least one report and the data representing the format for the at least one report; and

at least one report rendering component for rendering the at least one report using the at least one third XML file.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the at least one providing component is capable of providing the at least one second XML file by combining a plurality of template components to form the at least one second XML file.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein combining a plurality of template components to form the at least one second XML file comprises:

identifying the plurality of template components, each of the plurality of template components containing data representing formatting information for the at least one report; and

retrieving the identified plurality of template components.

15. The system of claim 12, wherein the at least one XSL processing component is capable of converting the at least one second XML file to at least one XSL stylesheet by applying at least one intermediary XSL stylesheet to the at least one second XML file.

16. The system of claim 12, wherein the rendering component renders the at least one report using the at least one third XML file by:

converting the at least one third XML file to at least one XSL-FO file; and

rendering the at least one report from the at least one XSL-FO file.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein converting the at least one third XML file to at least one XSL-FO file comprises applying at least one intermediary XSL stylesheet to the at least one third XML file.

18. The system of claim 12, wherein the data representing information to be presented in the at least one report contained in the at least one first XML file comprises at least one of patient information, medical provider information, healthcare facility information, and medical information.

19. The system of claim 12, wherein the at least one report comprises a medical record.

20. The system of claim 12, wherein the at least one report comprises at least one of a PDF document, a Word document, and an HTML document.
