Abstract

The invention relates to a display device (2) with pixels (8) arranged in columns m and rows n, wherein the pixels of a row n can be selected by a row voltage (VROW) supplied through control lines (6), and column voltages (VCOL) that correspond to the picture data of the selected pixels to be displayed can be supplied through data lines (7). The invention further relates to a method of controlling such a display device. To obtain a display device in which an optimized picture quality is achieved in combination with a long battery life and low manufacturing costs, it is proposed to connect the mutually adjoining pixel groups arranged in one row or column, said groups comprising adjoining pixels of one row or column, to adjoining control lines (6n, 6n+1) or data lines (7m, 7m+1) in alternation. This renders it possible to control such a display device by a conventional control method. A pixel inversion can be obtained here by a control method with row inversion, without the expenditure which is usually necessary for this and without the restrictions, for example that only high voltages can be used for the control, so that not only the energy cost but also the manufacturing cost is reduced.

Claims

1. A display device with pixels arranged in columns m and rows n, in which the pixels of a row n can be selected by means of a row voltage supplied via control lines, and column voltages that correspond to the image data of the selected pixel to be displayed can be supplied via data lines, wherein mutually adjoining pixel groups arranged in a row or column, consisting of adjoining pixels of a row or column, are connected to adjoining control lines or data lines, as applicable, in alternation.

2. A display device as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that a pixel group comprises one pixel.

3. A display device as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that mutually adjoining pixels of one row are alternately connected to the adjoining control lines.

4. A display device as claimed in claim 3, characterized in that a delay unit is connected to every second data line, which unit is provided for storing column voltage values, while a clock signal can be supplied to the delay units.

5. A display device as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that mutually adjoining pixels of a column are connected to the adjoining data lines in alternation.

6. A display device as claimed in claim 5, characterized in that a delay unit is arranged in every second control line, which unit is provided for storing row voltage values, while a clock signal can be supplied to the delay units.

7. A display device as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that pixels comprise switching elements (S_XX) with control terminals which are connected to control lines and data terminals which are connected to data lines.

8. A display device as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the rows and columns situated at the edges of the display device are covered.

A method of controlling a display device as claimed in claim 4, wherein the column voltages for the columns are supplied to the pixels of the selected row without delay unit upon the clock signal, and the column voltage values stored in the delay units are supplied to the pixels of the selected row, and the column voltages applied to the data lines for the columns with the delay units are read into the delay units upon the clock signal and are stored therein until the next clock signal.
