Abstract

A method is disclosed that enables the delivery of relevant content to a telecommunications user engaged in a call. In particular, in the illustrative embodiments a telecommunications terminal that is to receive content is selected based on (i) a telecommunications terminal involved in a call and (ii) the mode of communication (e.g., voice, video, text, etc.) of the call. In addition, in the illustrative embodiments the second terminal to which content is to be delivered might also be based on one or more of the following: the identity of the user; the identity of other users involved in the call; the telecommunications terminal employed by the user for the call; other telecommunications terminals involved in the call; the date and time; the location of the user; and the location of other users involved in the call.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

transmitting a signal from a data-processing system to a second telecommunications terminal;

wherein said signal represents a second mode of communication; and

wherein said second telecommunications terminal and said second mode of communication are based on;

(i) a first telecommunications terminal, and

(ii) a mode of communication of a call in progress that involves said first telecommunications terminal; and

wherein the transmission of said signal occurs during said call.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said second mode of communication is different than said mode of communication of said call.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said second telecommunications terminal is also based on at least one of:

(i) the geo-location of said second telecommunications terminal,

(ii) a change in the geo-location of said first telecommunications terminal, and

(iii) the proximity of said second telecommunications terminal to said first telecommunications terminal.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said second telecommunications terminal is also based on at least one of:

(i) an estimate of the time remaining in said call, and

(ii) the calendrical time at said first telecommunications terminal.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein said second telecommunications terminal is also based on an identifier of said first telecommunications terminal.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the transmission of said signal bypasses said first telecommunications terminal.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein said second telecommunications terminal is also based on at least one of:

(i) the capabilities of said second terminal, and

(ii) the data rate available for transmitting content to said second terminal.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the mode of communication of said call is voice and the mode of communication represented by said signal is video.

9. A method comprising:

receiving a first signal at a data-processing system from a first telecommunications terminal, wherein the user of said first telecommunications terminal is engaged in a call;

generating a second signal at said data-processing system; and

transmitting said second signal from said data-processing system to a second telecommunications terminal during said call, wherein said second telecommunications terminal is based on said first telecommunications terminal and said first signal;

wherein the modes of communication represented by said first signal and second signal are different.

10. The method of claim 9 further comprising selecting at said data-processing system (i) said second telecommunications terminal and (ii) said mode of communication represented by said second telecommunications terminal.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the selection is based on the proximity of said second telecommunications terminal to said first telecommunications terminal.

12. The method of claim 10 wherein the selection is based on at least one of:

(i) the capabilities of said second terminal, and

(ii) the data rate available for transmitting content to said second terminal.

13. The method of claim 9 wherein the transmission of said second signal bypasses said first telecommunications terminal.

14. The method of claim 9 wherein said second signal is based on at least a portion of the dialog of said call.

15. The method of claim 9 wherein the mode of communication represented by said first signal is voice and said mode of communication represented by said second signal is video.

16. The method of claim 9 wherein said second signal is based on the current state of said call.

17. A method comprising:

transmitting a signal from a data-processing system to a computing platform that hosts a second software application;

wherein said signal represents a second mode of communication; and

wherein said second software application and said second mode of communication are based on;

(i) a first software application, and

(ii) a mode of communication of a call in progress that involves said first software application; and

wherein the transmission of said signal occurs during said call.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein said second mode of communication is different than said mode of communication of said call.

19. The method of claim 17 wherein said first software application is associated with a telecommunications terminal.

20. The method of claim 17 wherein the transmission of said signal bypasses said first software application.

21. A method comprising:

receiving a signal at a first telecommunications terminal, wherein the user of said first telecommunications terminal is engaged in a call; and

transmitting said signal from said first telecommunications terminal to a second telecommunications terminal during said call, wherein said second telecommunications terminal is based on (i) said first telecommunications terminal and (ii) the mode of communication that the signal represents;

wherein the mode of communication represented by said signal is different than the mode of communication of said call.

22. The method of claim 21 wherein said second telecommunications terminal is also based on at least one of:

(i) the geo-location of said second telecommunications terminal,

(ii) a change in the geo-location of said first telecommunications terminal, and

(iii) the proximity of said second telecommunications terminal to said first telecommunications terminal.

23. The method of claim 21 wherein said second telecommunications terminal is also based on at least one of:

(i) an estimate of the time remaining in said call, and

(ii) the calendrical time at said first telecommunications terminal.

24. The method of claim 21 wherein said second telecommunications terminal is also based on at least one of:

(i) the capabilities of said second terminal, and

(ii) the data rate available for transmitting content to said second terminal.

25. The method of claim 21 wherein said second telecommunications terminal is also based on an identifier of said first telecommunications terminal.

26. The method of claim 21 wherein the mode of communication of said call is voice and the mode of communication represented by said signal is video.
