Abstract

A system and method for an interface for external system management is disclosed. According to an embodiment of the invention, a method includes connecting a first client system with a web service of a server, the server including an application, the client system utilizing one of a plurality of computer platforms; and receiving a management instruction from the first client system using the web service.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

connecting a first client system with a web service of a server, the server including an application, the client system utilizing one of a plurality of computer platforms; and

receiving a management instruction from the first client system using the web service.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

connecting a second client system with the web service, the second client system being a different one of the plurality of platforms; and

receiving a management instruction from the second client system using the web service.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising initiating a startup and control service using the web service.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the management instruction comprises an instruction for one or more of starting, stopping, and monitoring the application.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the server is a J2EE server.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising registering the web service with a registry.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein connecting the first client system with the web service comprises binding the web service for the first client system.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the management instruction comprises a SOAP (simple object access protocol) message.

9. A server comprising:

a program engine, the program engine including an application; and

a web service interface, the web service interface to connect an external client with the application.

10. The server of claim 9, wherein the server is to receive a management instruction for the application through the web service interface.

11. The server of claim 10, wherein the management instruction is one of an instruction to start the application, an instruction to stop the application, or an instruction to monitor the application.

12. The server of claim 10, wherein the management instruction comprises a SOAP (simple object access protocol) message.

13. The server of claim 9, wherein the application server comprises a Java platform environment.

14. The server of claim 9, wherein the web service interface is compatible with a plurality of client platforms.

15. The server of claim 9, further comprising a registry, the web service interface being registered in the registry.

16. The server of claim 15, wherein the registry is a UDDI (universal description, discovery, and integration) registry.

17. A system comprising:

an application server, the application server supporting an application; and

an interface, the interface being web service based, the interface to provide a connection between an external system and the application for management of the application.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the interface is compatible with a plurality of external system platforms.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein the management of the application includes one or more of starting the application, shutting down the application, or monitoring the application.

20. The system of claim 17, wherein the application server is a J2EE (Java 2, Enterprise Edition) compatible server.

21. The system of claim 17, further comprising a registry, the web service interface being registered in the registry.

22. A machine-readable medium having stored thereon data representing sequences of instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

connecting a first client system with a web service of a server, the server including an application, the client system utilizing one of a plurality of computer platforms; and

receiving a management instruction from the first client system using the web service.

23. The medium of claim 22, wherein the instructions include instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

connecting a second client system with the web service, the second client system being a different one of the plurality of platforms; and

receiving a management instruction from the second client system using the web service.

24. The medium of claim 22, wherein the instructions include instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising initiating a startup and control service using the web service.

25. The medium of claim 22, wherein the management instruction comprises an instruction for one or more of starting, stopping, and monitoring the application.

26. The medium of claim 22, wherein the server is a J2EE server.

27. The medium of claim 22, wherein the instructions include instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising registering the web service with a registry.

28. The medium of claim 27, wherein connecting the first client system with the web service comprises binding the web service for the first client system.

29. The medium of claim 22, wherein the management instruction comprises a SOAP (simple object access protocol) message.
