Abstract

The present invention provides an information processing system, comprising a plurality of calculation nodes with an optical transmitter, which individually outputs a plurality of optical signals each having a different wavelength, and an optical receiver, which individually receives a plurality of optical signals each having a different wavelength, an optical transmission path connecting a plurality of the calculation nodes to each other, and optical pathway switching unit, lying in the optical transmission path, for transmitting the optical signal to the specific calculation node in accordance with a wavelength of the optical signal output from one of the calculation nodes.

Claims

1. An information processing system, comprising:

a plurality of calculation nodes with an optical transmitter, which individually outputs a plurality of optical signals each having a different wavelength, and an optical receiver, which individually receives a plurality of optical signals each having a different wavelength;

a optical transmission path connecting a plurality of the calculation nodes to each other; and

optical pathway switching unit, lying in the optical transmission path, for transmitting the optical signal to the specific calculation node in accordance with a wavelength of the optical signal output from one of the calculation nodes.

2. An information processing system with a plurality of calculation nodes connected to each other through an optical transmission path, in which the optical transmission path comprising:

first optical path switching unit for switching connections between a plurality of the calculation nodes; and

second optical path switching unit for wavelength division multiplexing optical signals transmitted and received between a plurality of the calculation nodes and for variably controlling communication capacity to the calculation node of an individual connection destination in units of wavelength.

3. The information processing system according to claim 2 wherein

the second optical path switching unit is provided to each of an input unit and an output unit of the optical signals in the individual calculation node, and

between the first optical path switching unit and the second optical path switching unit, a full-mesh connection, to which all of the calculation nodes are connected at the same time through the second optical path switching unit, is configured.

4. The information processing system according to claim 2, wherein

a plurality of the calculation node logically configures a 3-dimensional-Torus connection through the first optical path switching unit, the second optical path switching unit and the optical transmission path, and

the optical signals in groups of different wavelengths are assigned to each of positive and negative connection directions of three axes, X, Y and Z, in the Torus connection, and communication between the calculation nodes by wavelength division multiplexing is performed.

5. An information processing system, comprising:

a plurality of calculation nodes with an optical transmitter, which individually outputs a plurality of optical signals with different wavelengths, and an optical receiver, which individually inputs a plurality of optical signals with different wavelengths;

an optical transmission path connecting a plurality of the calculation nodes to each other; and

a wavelength selection switch, lying in the optical transmission path, for transmitting the optical signal to the specific calculation node in accordance with a wavelength of the optical signal output from one of the calculation nodes.

6. An information processing system, comprising:

a plurality of calculation nodes with an optical transmitter, which individually outputs a plurality of optical signals each having a different wavelength, and an optical receiver, which individually receives a plurality of optical signals each having a different wavelength;

an optical transmission path connecting a plurality of the calculation nodes to each other;

optical path switching unit, lying on the optical transmission path, for transmitting the optical signal to the specific calculation node in accordance with a wavelength of the optical signal output from one of the calculation nodes; and

unit for multiplexing optical signals output from the calculation nodes and for switching pathways of the multiplexed optical signals at one time.

7. An information processing system, comprising:

a plurality of calculation nodes with an optical transmitter, which individually outputs a plurality of optical signals each having a different wavelength, and an optical receiver, which individually receives a plurality of optical signals each having a different wavelength;

an optical transmission path connecting a plurality of the calculation nodes to each other;

a plurality of wavelength selection switches, lying in the optical transmission path, which are connected to each of the optical transmitter and the optical receiver; and

an optical switch, lying in the optical transmission path, which connects a plurality of the wavelength selection switches to each other.

8. The information processing system according to claim 7, wherein

the optical transmitter of the individual calculation node comprises a multiplexer, which performs wavelength division multiplexing of a plurality of optical signals and transmits the signals to the wavelength selection switch as a wavelength division multiplexed optical signal,

the optical receiver of the individual calculation node comprises a demultiplexer, which splits the wavelength division multiplexed optical signal originating from the wavelength selection switch into each wavelength, and

between each of the optical transmitter and the optical receiver, and the wavelength selection switch is connected by one optical transmission path.

9. The information processing system according to claim 7, wherein

the individual wavelength selection switch comprises a demultiplexer, splitting a wavelength division multiplexed signal input from outside into optical signals with each wavelength, a multiplexer, wavelength division multiplexing the optical signals into a plurality of groups, and a matrix switch, switching transmission pathways of the optical signals between the demultiplexer and the multiplexer, and

the individual calculation node and the optical switch are connected by a one-to-many connection.

10. The information processing system according to claim 7 wherein

a 3-dimensional-Torus connection is logically configured through the wavelength selection switch, the optical switch and the optical transmission path, and

selection of the optical signal output to each of positive and negative connection direction of three axes, X, Y and Z, in the Torus connection is performed in the wavelength selection switch, and a connection state between the calculation nodes is controlled by the optical switch.

11. The information processing system according to claim 7 wherein

a plurality of the calculation node logically configures a 3-dimensional-Torus connection through the wavelength selection switch, the optical switch and the optical transmission path, and

the optical signals in groups of different wavelengths are assigned to each of positive and negative connection directions of three axes, X, Y and Z, in the Torus connection, and communication between the calculation nodes is performed by wavelength division multiplexing.

12. A calculation node, constituting an information processing system by being connected to the other calculation nodes through optical path switching unit, wherein

comprised are an optical transmitter, which individually outputs a plurality of optical signals with different wavelengths and an optical receiver, which individually inputs a plurality of optical signals with different wavelengths.

The calculation node according to claim 12 wherein the optical transmitter comprises a multiplexer, which performs wavelength division multiplexing of a plurality of optical signals and transmits the signals to the wavelength selection switch as wavelength division multiplexed optical signals, and

the optical receiver comprises a demultiplexer, which splits the wavelength division multiplexed optical signal originating from the wavelength selection switch into each wavelength.

14. The calculation node according to claim 12, comprising a function to transmit the optical signals with different wavelengths in each group of the calculation node or another calculation node of the communication destination.

15. An information processing system control method wherein

each of a plurality of calculation nodes, comprising an optical transmitter, which individually outputs a plurality of optical signals with different wavelengths and an optical receiver, which individually inputs a plurality of optical signals with different wavelengths, is connected to each other through optical path switching unit, and

by the optical path switching unit, the transmission pathways of the optical signal between a plurality of the calculation nodes are switched in units of individual wavelength and/or in units of the multiplexed wavelength.

16. The information processing system control method according to claim 15, wherein

as optical path switching unit, a plurality of the calculation nodes are connected in a crossbar connection, using a wavelength selection switch.

17. The information processing system control method according to claim 15, wherein the optical path switching unit comprises:

a wavelength selection switch connected to the optical transmitter and the optical receiver in each of the calculation node; and

an optical switch connecting between a plurality of the wavelength selection switches so that the wavelength selection switch configured in the optical transmitter of all the calculation nodes and the wavelength selection switch configured in the optical receiver of all the calculation nodes can be connected simultaneously.

18. The information processing system control method according to claim 15, wherein

a plurality of the calculation nodes logically configures a 3-dimensional-Torus connection through the optical path switching unit, and

the optical signals in groups of different wavelengths are assigned to each of positive and negative connection directions of three axes, X, Y and Z, in the Torus connection, and communication between the calculation nodes is performed by wavelength division multiplexing.

19. The information processing system control method according to claim 15, comprising processes of:

estimating the number of the required calculation nodes and calculating the shortest routes between the calculation nodes according to an application program to be executed in the information processing system;

setting a connection relation of the calculation nodes in the optical path switching unit to realize the shortest routes;

selecting an optical signal whose output wavelength corresponds to the node of the communication destination and outputting the optical signal to the optical pathway, in the optical path switching unit on a transmission side node; and

receiving the optical signals of the output wavelength selectively on the reception side.

20. An information processing system control method comprising steps of:

connecting a plurality of calculation nodes to a 3-dimensional-Torus configuration through optical transmission pathways and optical path switching unit;

assigning the optical signals in groups of different wavelengths to each of positive and negative connection directions of three axes, X, Y and Z, in the Torus connection; and

performing communication between the calculation nodes by wavelength division multiplexing.
