Abstract

A wall or ceiling mountable lighting device comprises a self-contained single or multiple LED light source for emitting warm yellow-white light corresponding to halogen or incandescent light and a control circuit controlled by a remote control unit to energize and deenergize the light source and control light intensity. A rechargeable battery power source mounted on the lighting device is connectable to apparatus for charging the battery without removing the battery from the device. The apparatus includes an elongated probe assembly releasably connectable to the lighting device to perform the recharging process. The lighting device is particularly adapted for ease of placement of a light source for decorative purposes and/or illuminating artifacts in locations which would require substantial structural modifications to install conventional lighting.

Claims

1. A lighting device for providing one of decorative illumination, and illumination of a particular subject with aesthetically pleasing light characterized by:

a first housing for supporting at least one light emitting diode light source and a lens for light emitted by said light source;

a support for said first housing for adjusting the direction of a light beam emitted by said light source;

a base for supporting said first housing;

a control circuit for controlling at least one of the intensity of light emitted by said light source and the direction of said light beam generated by said light source; and

a power source operably connected to said control circuit for providing power to energize said light source and to provide for remote control of at least one of energization of said light source and direction of projection of said light source.

2. The lighting device set forth in claim 1 wherein:

said light source comprises plural light emitting diodes operable to emit light in a warm yellow-white comparable to halogen or incandescent light emission.

3. The lighting device set forth in claim 1 wherein:

said housing supporting said light source is connected to said base by mechanism for directing a beam of light emitted by said light source in a selected direction.

4. The lighting device set forth in claim 3 including:

a mechanism for focusing a beam of light emitted by said light source in a preferred degree of focus.

5. The lighting device set forth in claim 1 wherein:

said power source comprises a chargeable battery unit.

6. The lighting device set forth in claim 5 wherein:

said battery unit includes means for connecting said battery unit to a charging apparatus whereby said lighting device may be accessed for charging said battery in positions of said light source which are substantially inaccessible by operating personnel.

7. The lighting device set forth in claim 6 wherein:

said charging apparatus includes an elongated pole or rod.

8. The lighting device set forth in claim 7 wherein:

said charging apparatus includes a head member engageable with said battery unit for electrically connecting said battery unit to a battery charging device.

9. The lighting device set forth in claim 7 wherein:

said battery unit includes a housing including spaced apart fingers for receiving said head member and for biasing said head member into engagement with electrical contacts on said battery unit for electrically connecting said battery unit to a battery charging circuit.

10. The lighting device set forth in claim 1 wherein:

said power source comprises an AC electrical power source and said lighting device includes means for converting AC power from said power source directly to DC power on said lighting device whereby said lighting device may be hard wired to said AC power source.

11. The lighting device set forth in claim 1 wherein:

said control circuit includes means for receiving a radiation signal from a remote control unit for at least one of energizing and deenergizing said light source and controlling the intensity of light emitted by said light source.

12. The lighting device set forth in claim 11 including:

a decoding circuit in said control circuit for transmitting instructions to a controller for controlling energization of said lighting device in response to a predetermined signal from said remote control unit.

13. A lighting device for providing one of decorative illumination and illumination of a particular subject with aesthetically pleasing light characterized by:

a first housing for supporting at least one light emitting diode light source and a lens;

a support for said first housing for adjusting the direction of a light beam emitted by said light source;

a base for supporting said first housing;

a control circuit for controlling the intensity of light emitted by said light source;

a chargeable battery power source operably connected to said control circuit providing power to energize said light source; and

a battery charging apparatus including a head member and an elongated pole connected to said head member, said head member being detachably connectable to said lighting device for charging said battery power source.

14. The lighting device set forth in claim 13 wherein:

said light source comprises plural light emitting diodes operable to emit light in a warm yellow-white comparable to one of a halogen and incandescent light.

15. The lighting device set forth in claim 13 wherein:

said control circuit includes means for receiving a radiation signal from a remote control unit for at least one of energizing and deenergizing said light source and controlling the intensity of light emitted by said light source.

16. The lighting device set forth in claim 15 including:

a decoding circuit in said control circuit for transmitting instructions to a controller for controlling energization of said lighting device in response to a predetermined signal from said remote control unit.

17. The lighting device set forth in claim 13 including:

a mechanism for focusing a beam of light emitted by said light source in a preferred degree of focus.

18. The lighting device set forth in claim 13 wherein:

said battery power source includes a battery unit including means for connecting said battery unit to said charging apparatus whereby said lighting device may be accessed for charging said battery unit in positions of said lighting source which are substantially inaccessible by operating personnel.

19. The lighting device set forth in claim 18 wherein:

said battery unit includes a housing including spaced apart fingers for receiving said head member and for biasing said head member into engagement with electrical contacts on said battery unit for electrically connecting said battery unit to a battery charging circuit.

20. The lighting device set forth in claim 13 wherein:

said battery power source comprises an AC to DC voltage converter connected to said head member by way of conductor means.

21. A lighting device for providing one of decorative illumination and illumination of a particular subject with aesthetically pleasing light characterized by:

a first housing for supporting plural light emitting diode light sources operable to emit warm yellow-white light comparable to one of a halogen and incandescent light source;

a base for supporting said first housing;

a control circuit for controlling the intensity of light emitted by said light sources;

a battery power source operably connected to said control circuit providing power to energize said light sources; and

said control circuit includes means for receiving a radiation signal from a remote control unit for at least one of energizing and deenergizing said light source and controlling the intensity of light emitted by said light source.

22. The lighting device set forth in claim 21 including:

a battery charging apparatus including a head member and an elongated pole connected to said head member, said head member being detachably connectable to said lighting device for charging said battery power source.

23. The lighting device set forth in claim 22 wherein:

said battery power source includes a battery unit including means for connecting said battery unit to said charging apparatus whereby said lighting device may be accessed for charging said battery unit in positions of said lighting device which are substantially inaccessible by operating personnel.

24. The lighting device set forth in claim 23 wherein:

said battery unit includes a housing including spaced apart fingers for receiving said head member and for biasing said head member into engagement with electrical contacts on said battery unit for electrically connecting said battery unit to a battery charging circuit.

25. The lighting device set forth in claim 22 wherein:

said head member is detachably connected to said pole for removing said pole from said head member during charging of said battery power source.

26. The lighting device set forth in claim 25 wherein:

said head member and said pole include cooperating magnet means for detachably connecting said pole to said head member.

27. A lighting device particularly adapted as a wall sconce for providing one of decorative illumination, and illumination of a particular subject with aesthetically pleasing light characterized by:

a first housing for supporting at least one light emitting diode light source and a lens for light emitted by said light source;

a base for supporting said first housing;

a control circuit for controlling at least one of the intensity of light emitted by said light source and the direction of a light beam generated by said light source; and

a chargeable battery power source operably connected to said control circuit for providing power to energize said light source.

28. The lighting device set forth in claim 27 including:

a light directing or disseminating shade supported by a wall bracket and adapted to support said base.
