Abstract

This invention generally relates to one or more computer networks having computers like personal computers or network servers with microprocessors linked by broadband transmission means and having hardware, software, firmware, and other means such that at least one parallel processing operation occurs that involve at least two computers in the network. More particularly, this invention relates to one or more large networks composed of smaller networks and large numbers of computers connected, like the Internet, wherein more than one separate parallel processing operation involving more than one different set of computers occurs simultaneously and wherein ongoing processing linkages can be established between virtually any microprocessors of separate computers connected to the network. Still more particularly, this invention relates to business arrangements enabling the shared used of network microprocessors for parallel and other processing, wherein personal computer owners provide microprocessor processing power to a network, preferably for parallel processing, in exchange for network linkage to other personal and other computers supplied by network providers, including linkage to other microprocessors for parallel or other processing; the basis of the exchange between owners and providers being whatever terms to which the parties agree, subject to governing laws, regulations, or rules, including payment from either party to the other based on periodic measurement of net use or provision of processing power.

Claims

1. A personal computer microchip comprising:

a plurality of microprocessors, each of the microprocessors having a direct optical communication link to connect with an external network.

2. The personal computer microchip of claim 1, wherein at least two components of the personal computer microchip are connected by an optical communications link.

3. The personal computer microchip of claim 2, wherein the at least two components include at least one of a microprocessor and a memory.

4. The personal computer microchip of claim 1, wherein the optical communication link includes an omniguide.

5. The personal computer microchip according to claim 1, wherein the optical communication link includes an optical fiber.

6. The personal computer microchip according to claim 1, wherein the optical communication link is freespace optical wireless.

7. The personal computer microchip according to claim 1, wherein the personal computer microchip includes a microlaser.

8. The personal computer microchip according to claim 4, wherein the optical omniguide connects at least two of the microprocessors on the personal computer microchip.

9. The personal computer microchip according to claim 4, wherein the optical omniguide connects said at least one of the microprocessors with a memory component on the personal computer microchip.

10. The personal computer microchip according to claim 4, wherein the optical omniguide connects at least one of the microprocessors using a digital signal processor on the personal computer microchip.

11. The personal computer microchip according to claim 1, wherein one microprocessor functions as a master using at least one other microprocessor as a slave in a shared processing operation such as parallel processing or multitasking.

12. The personal computer microchip according to claim 1, wherein the personal computer microchip includes an internal firewall.

13. The personal computer microchip according to claim 1, wherein connection components of the personal computer microchip and a network communications connection system are homogeneous in that the connection components incorporate agreed upon design standards and are functionally equivalent in performing parallel processing operations.

14. The personal computer microchip according to claim 1, wherein a network communications connection system includes an Internet.

15. The personal computer microchip according to claim 15, wherein the Internet includes a World Wide Web.

16. A personal computer microchip comprising:

at least one microprocessor having a direct optical communication link to connect said at least one microprocessor with an external network, wherein

at least two components of the personal computer microchip are connected by an optical communication link.

17. The personal computer microchip of claim 16, wherein said personal computer microchip comprises a plurality of microprocessors, each of the microprocessors having a direct optical communication link to connect with the external network.

18. The personal computer microchip of claim 16, wherein the at least two components include at least one of a microprocessor and a memory.

19. The personal computer microchip of claim 16, wherein the optical communication link includes an omniguide.

20. The personal computer microchip or method according to claim 16, wherein the optical communication link includes an optical fiber.

21. The personal computer microchip according to claim 16, wherein the optical communication link is freespace optical wireless.

22. The personal computer microchip according to claim 16, wherein the personal computer microchip includes a microlaser.

23. The personal computer microchip according to claim 19, wherein the optical omniguide connects at least two of the microprocessors on the personal computer microchip.

24. The personal computer microchip according to claim 19, wherein the optical omniguide connects said at least one of the microprocessors with a memory component on the personal computer microchip.

25. The personal computer microchip according to claim 19, wherein the optical omniguide connects at least one of the microprocessors using a digital signal processor on the personal computer microchip.

26. The personal computer microchip according to claim 16, wherein one microprocessor functions as a master using at least one other microprocessor as a slave in a shared processing operation such as parallel processing or multitasking.

27. The personal computer microchip according to claim 16, wherein the personal computer microchip includes an internal firewall.

The personal computer microchip according to claim 16, wherein connection components of the personal computer microchip and a network communications connection system are homogeneous in that the connection components incorporate agreed upon design standards and are functionally equivalent in performing parallel processing operations.

29. The personal computer microchip according to claim 16, wherein a network communications connection system includes an Internet.

30. The personal computer microchip according to claim 29, wherein the Internet includes a World Wide Web.
