Abstract

A method for data transmission over first and second media that overlaps in frequency includes computing one or more time division multiple access (TDMA) time-slot channels to be shared between the first and second media for data transmission; allocating one or more time-slot channels to the first medium for data transmission; allocating one or more of the remaining time-slot channels to the second medium for data transmission; and instructing transceivers for the first and second media to communicate only in their allocated time-slot channels.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

allocating at least one data channel of a plurality of data channels to be shared between a first medium and a second medium, to the first medium for data transmission via a wireless device;

allocating at least one remaining data channel to the second medium for data transmission via the wireless device; and

dynamically adjusting a number of the data channels assigned to one of the first and second media during the data transmission to remain within limits of a desired level of service.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising computing one or more time division multiple access (TDMA) time-slot channels to be shared between the first medium and the second medium for data transmission.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first and second media conforms to an 802.11 specification.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first and second media conforms to a Bluetooth specification.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining the desired level of service for one of the first and second media during the data transmission.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the dynamic adjusting comprises:

determining available data channels;

detecting the medium that fails to meet the desired level of service;

allocating the medium to a configuration having additional data channels; and

transmitting a channel assignment message including information on the allocated configuration with the additional data channels.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising instructing transceivers for the first and second media to communicate only in their newly allocated data channels.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the data channels comprise time division multiple access (TDMA) channels.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting on bonded cellular frequency channels via the wireless device.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising allocating uplink and downlink cellular frequency channels separately.

11. The method of claim 8, further comprising instructing transceivers for the first and second media to communicate only in their allocated time-slot channels.

12. A system comprising:

a processor;

a first transceiver coupled to the processor to communicate via a first medium; and

a second transceiver coupled to the processor to communicate via a second medium, wherein at least one of the first transceiver and the second transceiver is to retry transmission of a packet at a lower rate if a prior transmission of the packet is not acknowledged.

13. The system of claim 12, further comprising means for dynamically allocating data channels to one of the first medium and the second medium based upon a desired level of service.

14. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor comprises an integrated circuit having a reconfigurable processor core that includes a plurality of digital signal processors (DSPs).

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the integrated circuit further comprises a router coupled to the reconfigurable processor core.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the router is configured to bond a plurality of cellular frequency channels and at least one short-range wireless channel.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the means for dynamically allocating is to select one of the first medium and the second medium as a common medium for data transmission.

18. An apparatus comprising:

a first short-range wireless transceiver core to communicate according to a first short-range wireless protocol;

a second short-range wireless transceiver core to communicate according to a second short-range wireless protocol; and

a controller to select one of the first and second short-range wireless transceiver cores to communicate data of both short-range wireless protocols, wherein data of the unselected short-range wireless protocol is encoded into data of the selected short-range wireless protocol.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, further comprising a cellular radio core coupled to the first and second short-range wireless transceiver cores.

20. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the controller comprises a reconfigurable processor core including at least one central processor and at least one digital signal processor.
