Methods and apparatus for actuating displays
First Claim
Patent Images
1. A display apparatus, comprising:
- an actuator including a first compliant electrode; and
a second compliant electrode positioned proximate to the first compliant electrode, and being responsive to a voltage applied between the first and second compliant electrodes, to draw the first and second compliant electrodes together; and
a modulator coupled to the actuator to form an image on the display apparatus.

32. A method of forming an image on a display apparatus, comprising:
-
selecting a light modulator;
providing an actuator comprising first and second mechanically compliant electrodes positioned proximate to one another, wherein the first mechanically compliant electrode couples to a shutter;
activating the actuator by generating a voltage between the first and second mechanically compliant electrodes, thereby i) deforming the first and second mechanically compliant electrodes to draw them closer together; and
ii) moving the shutter into or out of an optical path to affect the illumination of a pixel in the image. - View Dependent Claims (33, 34, 35)
